Yes—many Samsung Galaxy phones support Wi-Fi Calling, but availability depends on both the phone and its carrier. The feature routes calls and messages over Wi-Fi when cellular coverage is unavailable. What Wi-Fi Calling does—and what it requires
Wi-Fi Calling lets a supported Galaxy phone make calls and send messages over a Wi-Fi connection when cellular service is unavailable. It is a carrier-provided feature, not a capability guaranteed on every Galaxy model or network. Samsung US Support says availability can vary by carrier and device.

- Wi-Fi: The phone must be connected to Wi-Fi, and the connection needs to be strong enough for the feature to work.
- Active mobile service: You need an active SIM or eSIM. A cellular signal is not necessarily required once Wi-Fi Calling is set up, but the feature does not replace an active carrier service. Samsung Canada confirms that an active mobile network connection is not required to use the feature.
- Carrier and device eligibility: Your carrier must support and enable Wi-Fi Calling for your line and device.
How to turn on Wi-Fi Calling on a Galaxy
On a US Galaxy phone, try the Settings route first. Menu names and availability can differ by model, software version, and carrier.

- Open Settings and tap Connections.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling and switch it on.
- If prompted, enter the requested emergency address information.

Why the Wi-Fi Calling option may be missing or fail to activate
A missing switch does not by itself prove that the Galaxy hardware is incompatible. Check the setup requirements, then ask your carrier to confirm eligibility and activation for your particular device and line.
- Confirm Wi-Fi is connected. A weak or unavailable Wi-Fi connection can prevent the feature from working.
- Check SIM or eSIM service. Make sure the SIM is inserted or the eSIM is active, with active carrier service.
- Ask the carrier about support and activation. Availability differs by carrier, device, and market; Samsung’s Ireland support guidance likewise says the network provider must enable Wi-Fi Calling. Samsung Ireland Support
- Check the emergency address prompt. Complete the requested information during setup, or update it through Wi-Fi Calling settings if needed.
- For an AT&T phone in the US, check VoLTE. Samsung says VoLTE must be enabled to activate Wi-Fi Calling on AT&T phones. Samsung’s US guide
Do you need to buy anything?
Usually, Wi-Fi Calling is a setting that uses the Wi-Fi connection and active carrier service you already have; Samsung does not identify a dedicated purchase as a general requirement. If your carrier or device is not eligible, ask the carrier what options exist for your line before considering a handset change or network equipment. The available guidance does not establish that buying a router, SIM/eSIM product, or signal booster is generally necessary.
