Robinhood says it holds small amounts of cryptocurrency for business operations, but no significant amount for its own account. Its 2025 annual filing does not say how much Bitcoin, if any, the company owns. Robinhood separately holds customers’ crypto in custody and says it does not commingle those assets with its own operational crypto. No reviewed disclosure shows that a Robinhood company purchase changed a customer’s recorded Bitcoin balance or proves that a particular purchase moved Bitcoin’s market price.
What Robinhood says it owns
In its 2025 annual filing, Robinhood Markets, Inc. says: “We currently do not hold significant amounts of cryptocurrency for our own account.” The company also says it holds small amounts of crypto “solely to support our business operations,” does not commingle that crypto with users’ assets, and does not seek to profit from proprietary crypto trading.

These statements describe Robinhood’s disclosed position for its 2025 annual reporting period; they are not independent verification of its holdings. The filing does not give a Bitcoin-specific quantity, and the reviewed July 30, 2026 quarterly filing does not provide a newer quantified balance of Robinhood-owned Bitcoin. Do not treat customer assets held in custody or trading volume as company-owned Bitcoin.
Is the Bitcoin in your Robinhood account yours?
Robinhood Crypto, LLC holds customers’ crypto in custody and maintains records of customer ownership and balances. The coins are held through custodial infrastructure, while the company controls the private keys for its custodial addresses. Robinhood’s filings describe customer transfers and holdings as reflected in customer account records.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
This is distinct from the crypto Robinhood says it holds for its own operations. Robinhood’s filing says those company holdings are not commingled with users’ crypto. The reviewed sources do not say that a company purchase changes an individual customer’s recorded balance or claim to Bitcoin.
Could a Robinhood purchase affect Bitcoin’s price or your trade?
Market price
A sufficiently large purchase can, in principle, add demand and influence a market price. But the reviewed disclosures do not establish that Robinhood made a particular Bitcoin purchase or that one affected Bitcoin’s price. It would be inaccurate to attribute a price move to Robinhood without evidence connecting a specific transaction to that move.

Your order execution
Trade execution can vary with ordinary market conditions, regardless of what Robinhood owns for its own operations. Robinhood says market orders use buffers intended to account for dramatic price moves; limit orders execute only at qualifying prices. The spread between bid and ask prices can make buy and sell estimates differ, while liquidity and rapid price changes can also affect execution. Scheduled maintenance and settlement timing may matter as well.

Robinhood Crypto custody
Robinhood’s U.S. customer materials distinguish Robinhood Crypto, LLC from Robinhood Financial LLC, which handles stocks, ETFs, and options. Crypto is not a stock, is not FDIC insured, and Robinhood Crypto is not a SIPC member. Robinhood says crypto positions held through Robinhood Crypto are not SIPC protected.

Robinhood’s security page says it stores crypto across cold and hot wallets, with most assets in cold storage. It also describes crime insurance covering a portion of assets across storage systems against theft, including cybersecurity breaches. That is a limited company-stated measure, not a guarantee that a customer’s entire balance is insured or that every kind of loss is covered.
Robinhood’s July 30, 2026 quarterly filing warns that loss of, or unauthorized access to, customer crypto private keys could prevent customers from trading or result in losses. It also describes transfer risks such as sending an asset to an incompatible network address.

External self-custody
Customers can transfer supported crypto to an external wallet. With self-custody, the customer controls the private keys rather than Robinhood and takes responsibility for keeping them safe and recovering access. A transfer also requires care with the supported asset and network; an incorrect destination or incompatible network can put funds at risk. Robinhood’s materials do not recommend a particular hardware wallet or say one is necessary.

Robinhood’s “How you’re protected” page, accessed October 7, 2026, describes SIPC coverage of up to $500,000 per account type, including a $250,000 limit for cash. Those limits concern eligible securities and cash; Robinhood states that crypto positions through Robinhood Crypto are not SIPC protected. The brokerage figure should not be read as protection for Bitcoin in a Robinhood Crypto account.
