What Restream looping does—and what it does not do
Restream’s Upload & Stream workflow sends a prerecorded video to YouTube as a livestream. You select or upload the file, schedule the event, choose YouTube as a destination, and set the loop count. The event airs automatically at the scheduled time; OBS does not need to be open. Restream’s scheduling guide describes the process.

The loop control applies to one video. Restream says playlists do not currently support looping. If you need a sequence to repeat, its suggested workaround is to duplicate entries in the playlist, which can contain up to 40 videos. That is a playlist of repeated entries, not the single-video loop setting.

- A Restream account and a plan that includes looping. Restream’s scheduling documentation identifies the Marathon and Media add-on plans; recorded-video streaming more broadly is available to all users, subject to plan-specific storage and file limits. Confirm current eligibility and limits in Restream’s plan details.
- A connected YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. Restream says first-time YouTube activation requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait. See its YouTube connection guidance.
- A supported video file. Restream’s video requirements specify MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV containers, H.264 video, AAC audio, and a keyframe interval of 2.
Prepare the video file
Restream’s required settings are the compatibility baseline. Its recommendations are Full HD 1080p (1920 × 1080), 30 or 60 FPS, and constant bitrate (CBR). It says 4K can work where the destination supports it. Keep the original file within the storage and file limits of your Restream plan.

Restream recommends adding 15–20 seconds of extra video at both the beginning and end. That buffer helps avoid losing important content if destination processing trims the start or finish. Do not put a time-critical spoken introduction or ending right at the file boundary.
Schedule and loop the YouTube event
- From the Restream home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Video.
- Choose a video from Uploads or Recordings, or upload a file. Restream’s Upload & Stream overview also describes uploads from desktop or mobile and imports from Descript, Google Drive, or Dropbox.
- Enter the event details and choose the schedule time. The event is created in advance and airs automatically at that time.
- Set the optional loop count for the single video. Restream documents up to 10 repetitions and a maximum 40-hour looping stream; the repeated footage is delivered as one event.
- Enable YouTube in the destination list, then create the event. Check the selected channel and scheduled time before leaving the setup.
Restream’s Help Center states that no action is needed at airtime: the event airs automatically at the scheduled time. This means you do not have to run OBS for the documented workflow.

Choose the right format for what you want to repeat
- One video repeated: use the single-video loop control. It is the direct option for repeating the same recording.
- Several clips in sequence: use a playlist. Restream says playlist looping is not supported; duplicating playlist entries is the documented workaround, up to 40 entries total.
- A continuous always-on channel: scheduled prerecorded events and a limited loop count are not the same as an indefinitely running stream. Check whether the event duration and plan suit your intended schedule.
Troubleshooting
The YouTube destination is missing or the event will not connect
Confirm YouTube is connected in Restream and live streaming is enabled for the channel. If this is the channel’s first live stream, Restream says activation requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait.
The file is rejected or playback is not as expected
Check the container, codecs, and keyframe interval against Restream’s requirements: MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV; H.264 video; AAC audio; keyframe interval 2. If the file uses another encoding, export a compatible version before uploading.

The loop control is unavailable
Restream describes looping as a paid feature and names Marathon and Media add-on plans as eligible in its scheduling guide. Review your current plan eligibility; do not assume that access to prerecorded streaming also includes looping.
The playlist does not repeat
Restream says playlists do not support looping. Duplicate the desired playlist entries instead, staying within the 40-video maximum, or use the single-video loop option when only one recording needs repetition.

The opening or closing content is cut off
Add the 15–20-second lead-in and tail recommended by Restream, then keep essential content away from the file’s exact start and end.
