Yes, a pre-recorded Restream event can appear on YouTube as a live broadcast and, if eligible, as a YouTube livestream archive afterward. That archive is separate from an ordinary YouTube video upload and from any recording saved in Restream. Restream’s event instructions describe scheduling and broadcasting the uploaded file; they do not promise a separate standard YouTube upload. What gets saved—and where?
There are three different copies to distinguish. A scheduled pre-recorded event is sent to YouTube as a live broadcast. YouTube may then archive that livestream on your channel. Separately, Restream may keep a recording in its Video Storage, subject to recording eligibility, plan limits, and retention. None of those steps should be treated as a guarantee that Restream also creates an ordinary uploaded YouTube video.

How to schedule a pre-recorded event in Restream
- In Restream, choose Pre-recorded livestream. Select a video from Uploads or Recordings, or upload a video. Restream’s event guide describes this workflow.
- Enter the event title and description, and choose its date and time. Add a thumbnail or create an event post if desired.
- Enable YouTube as a destination, then create the event. Restream says it airs automatically at the scheduled time.
- If you already created a YouTube event, select it in the YouTube channel settings for the scheduled stream. If YouTube auto-start or auto-stop is disabled, you may need to start or end the stream manually in YouTube. Restream’s existing-event instructions cover this case.
- After the broadcast, check YouTube Studio under Content > Live for the YouTube archive. Check Restream Video Storage or stream history separately for a Restream recording.
Restream says prerecorded streaming is available to all users, but file-size and storage limits depend on the add-on tier. That does not mean a Restream recording of the broadcast is downloadable on every plan: Restream’s separate recording-download article says recording downloads require a paid plan. What limits apply to the saved copies?
YouTube’s livestream archive
YouTube’s current Help Center guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. You can manage the archive’s visibility or delete it in YouTube Studio. Do not rely on an archive as your only copy. Restream recording retention and duration
Restream’s Help Center article dated July 1, 2026 lists recording retention of 15 days for Standard and Professional and 30 days for Business. It lists maximum recording-session durations of up to 6 hours on Standard and up to 10 hours on Professional and Business. These figures concern Restream recordings, not the separate YouTube archive. Check Restream’s current plan-specific recording guidance.
Prerecorded file requirements
Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV files, H.264 video encoding, AAC audio, and a keyframe interval of 2 as mandatory. It recommends Full HD 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS and adding 15–20 seconds at the beginning and end so destination platforms have time to process the incoming stream; that lead-in and ending are recommendations, not a stated minimum. Prepare YouTube before the scheduled event
Restream says livestreaming must be enabled for the YouTube channel. Its YouTube setup guidance says phone verification and a 24-hour wait are required before first streaming, and the Restream connection must be authorized by the channel owner. Complete setup ahead of the scheduled event rather than assuming a new channel can stream immediately. Restream’s YouTube setup guide has the connection steps.
Where to look if you cannot find a video afterward
- No replay in YouTube Studio: Check Content > Live and allow for the broadcast to finish processing. If the stream lasted over 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have been captured. Check visibility and deletion status in Studio as well.
- No downloadable recording in Restream: Confirm the account plan’s recording eligibility and retention window, then check Video Storage or stream history. Restream says recording downloads require a paid plan; the prerecorded-event feature and a downloadable recording are separate.
- The scheduled event did not start or stop as expected: Confirm the correct YouTube destination or existing event was selected. If YouTube auto-start or auto-stop is off, start or end the stream manually in YouTube.
- The upload is rejected or the event has playback issues: Verify the file container, H.264 video, AAC audio, and keyframe interval 2 against Restream’s requirements.
