Does GTA V Require a Graphics Card? Legacy and Enhanced PC Requirements

Rockstar lists discrete graphics cards for both GTA V PC editions. See the Legacy and Enhanced GPU requirements and how to check your PC.

Yes—Rockstar lists a discrete graphics card in the minimum PC requirements for both GTA V editions, Legacy and Enhanced. Rockstar also warns that some integrated graphics may be incompatible. The exact answer depends on which edition you plan to play and the specific hardware in your PC or laptop.

Why the GTA V edition matters

Rockstar publishes separate PC requirements for GTAV Legacy and GTAV Enhanced. Its store says a PC purchase includes both editions, with Legacy available for hardware that does not meet the minimum requirements for an Enhanced upgrade. Enhanced adds newer graphics features, including ray tracing features and support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS. Rockstar Games Store

Graphics cards required for each edition

Edition and tier Graphics card examples Other listed requirements
Legacy minimum NVIDIA 9800 GT (1GB VRAM) or AMD HD 4870 (1GB VRAM) Windows 10 64-bit, 4GB RAM, 125GB HDD
Legacy recommended NVIDIA GTX 660 (2GB VRAM) or AMD HD7870 (2GB VRAM) Windows 10 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 125GB HDD
Enhanced minimum NVIDIA GTX 1630 (4GB VRAM) or AMD RX 6400 (4GB VRAM) Windows 10 build 1909 or above, 8GB RAM, 105GB SSD required
Enhanced recommended NVIDIA RTX 3060 (8GB VRAM) or AMD RX 6600XT (8GB VRAM) Windows 11, 16GB dual-channel RAM, 105GB DirectStorage-compatible drive

These are the configurations Rockstar lists; they do not establish a particular frame rate. The requirements page does not provide an FPS guarantee for any of the GPUs.

Can you play GTA V with integrated graphics?

Possibly, but Rockstar does not give a blanket assurance that integrated graphics will work. Its support page warns: “Some system components such as mobile chipsets, integrated, and AGP graphics cards may be incompatible.” It does not name a supported integrated-GPU tier, so a broad label such as “Intel graphics” is not enough to confirm compatibility.

For a laptop, check the exact graphics processor model and compare it with the requirements for the edition you intend to run. Also check the CPU, RAM, operating system and storage: an adequate GPU by itself does not establish that the whole PC meets the listed requirements.

How to check whether your PC can run it

  1. Choose the edition. Decide whether you plan to play GTAV Legacy or GTAV Enhanced; their minimum graphics cards differ substantially.
  2. Find the exact GPU model. In Windows, check Device Manager or Task Manager’s Performance tab, or consult the PC manufacturer’s specification sheet. Do not rely only on a general description like “integrated graphics.”
  3. Compare the GPU and VRAM. Match the exact graphics card and its video memory against Rockstar’s minimum for your chosen edition.
  4. Check the rest of the system. Compare your CPU, RAM, Windows version and available storage with the corresponding requirements. Enhanced specifically requires an SSD.
  5. Set realistic expectations. Meeting minimum requirements is not a promise of smooth play or a particular FPS. Results depend on the full hardware configuration, resolution and game settings.

What to check before upgrading a graphics card

If your PC falls short, do not choose a replacement GPU by model name alone. Confirm that the card physically fits inside the case and that the power supply, required connectors, motherboard and CPU can support it. Rockstar’s requirements identify example cards, but do not provide comparative price, FPS or value data.

For Enhanced, Rockstar’s minimum examples are a GTX 1630 with 4GB VRAM or an RX 6400 with 4GB VRAM; its recommended examples are an RTX 3060 with 8GB VRAM or an RX 6600XT with 8GB VRAM. For Legacy, the listed minimum examples are much older: a 9800 GT with 1GB VRAM or an HD 4870 with 1GB VRAM. These labels are compatibility reference points, not a guarantee that any specific PC will run smoothly.
