They describe Grok as powered by SpaceXAI large language models. That is not proof that no other provider or backend service could process data: the public documents do not disclose every technical route. What they do explain is that a feature connected to a third-party service can send your content there when you select it, and that privacy and training controls differ between Grok.com or the Grok app, Grok on X, and enterprise/API use.
What the published documents say about Claude
SpaceXAI’s Consumer Terms describe Grok as powered by SpaceXAI large language models. The reviewed terms and privacy materials do not identify Claude or Anthropic as a routine recipient of ordinary consumer prompts. The careful answer is therefore that routine Claude routing is not established by those documents—not that they prove no undisclosed processing or subcontractor activity can occur.

The terms do address a narrower, explicit case: if you choose a feature that involves a third-party service, you authorize SpaceXAI to send your content out of the service. In the terms’ words, “If you select a feature that involves sending your User Content to, or accessing your User Content hosted on, such a third-party service, you are instructing and authorizing SpaceXAI to send your User Content out of the Service.” This describes content transmission associated with a selected feature; it does not name Claude as a default destination.

Start with the product surface you use. SpaceXAI’s Privacy Policy, effective August 24, 2026, covers Grok.com and the Grok mobile app. It says that when a person accesses the service through a third-party service, that third party’s privacy policy applies; it specifically identifies Grok on X as governed by X’s Privacy Policy and Terms. Do not assume a setting or policy for Grok.com also governs your X account.

The distinctions matter: consumer, X, and enterprise/API use are not interchangeable. For example, SpaceXAI’s Consumer Terms were last updated September 11, 2026, while its Enterprise FAQ was last updated February 25, 2025; check the current terms for your account and feature.
Can Grok use your prompts to train its models?
For Grok.com and the Grok app, SpaceXAI’s Consumer FAQ says it may use prompts, searches, other materials users submit, and Grok’s responses to train models. It also says users can control whether their data is used for training. The FAQ treats training control and personalization settings separately, so turning off personalization should not be assumed to turn off training use, or vice versa. Review the current controls in the product rather than assuming one switch covers both.

For Grok on X, X documents a separate setting. Its Grok help page describes opting out of use of interactions, inputs, and results for training or fine-tuning while still allowing use of Grok on X.

- Open X’s Settings and privacy.
- Go to Privacy & Safety, then Data sharing and personalization.
- Open Grok & Third-party Collaborators.
- Turn off Data Sharing.
This is the route published by X; labels may change, so check the current app or help page if they differ. X says the opt-out does not stop you from using Grok on X, but your interactions, inputs, and results are not used to train or fine-tune Grok.

What Private Chat does—and does not do
Where Private Chat is available, SpaceXAI says its content is not used for training and its history is not viewable in your account history. The FAQ says conversations are deleted from SpaceXAI systems within 30 days; that is a retention period, not an instant-erasure guarantee. It lists exceptions that can include safety, security, or legal retention, as well as data that has been de-identified or pseudonymized and disassociated from the account.
Private Chat should not be read as a promise that no processing occurs to provide the service. Nor does the published description establish that it disables every other setting or third-party feature you may choose.

Does Grok share data with third parties?
SpaceXAI’s Consumer FAQ says, “We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.” That statement is specifically about sale and marketing or advertising sharing; it does not mean Grok never shares content with anyone. The Privacy Policy describes contracted service providers and other disclosure contexts, and the Consumer Terms cover content sent to a third-party service when you select a feature involving it.
If your concern is a specific connector or deployment, the public materials reviewed here do not establish its exact technical data path. Check the current documentation and terms for that feature or account before submitting sensitive material.

What business and API users should check
SpaceXAI’s Enterprise FAQ, last updated February 25, 2025, says business inputs and outputs are not used to train models, with an exception for some free-credit arrangements where a user may agree to training. It also describes automatic deletion within 30 days, subject to exceptions. Those statements are not a substitute for the terms attached to a particular API or enterprise account; confirm the agreement and any free-credit conditions that apply to your deployment.
