For Windows, the report records Ghost of Yōtei reaching a black screen before crashing—not entering gameplay. SharpEmu is experimental, and the project cautions that compatibility and performance vary by game, operating system, and GPU driver.
What does the SharpEmu report say?
SharpEmu’s compatibility listing records Ghost of Yōtei on Windows for report 154, using build f98ff99 (release 0.0.4). The test, dated September 26, 2026, is marked “Boots,” but its note says the game reaches a black screen and then crashes. That label does not mean the game reached a menu or playable gameplay. See the SharpEmu compatibility listing.

The report does not establish a successful gameplay session, stable operation, or a usable configuration. It also gives no verified Ghost of Yōtei frame rate or other game-specific performance measurement. As a result, the claim that the game has reached gameplay on SharpEmu is not supported by this report.

SharpEmu describes itself as an early-stage, experimental PlayStation 5 emulator. Its README says it can load a real game’s eboot.bin, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle GPU-related functionality. The project warns: “Platform support is still experimental, so compatibility and performance vary by game, operating system, and GPU driver.” Read the SharpEmu project README.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Those project-wide capabilities do not show that this particular game runs. Nor does the general warning about performance establish that Ghost of Yōtei runs slowly: the game-specific entry reports a crash before gameplay, so there is no measured in-game performance to assess.
What counts as playable?
A launch attempt or a “Boots” label can describe an early step in startup, not a complete experience. For a meaningful playability claim, a report should say whether the game reaches gameplay and describe stability, graphics, audio, and performance. A first rendered image or intro would still not, by itself, demonstrate that a game can be played through reliably.

Do not confuse SharpEmu’s record with milestones from AnyPS5, a separate project. Reporting on AnyPS5 has distinguished its GPU translation or reimplementation work from conventional full-system emulation and cautioned that reaching an intro or first rendered scene is not equivalent to playing through a game. Those observations are about AnyPS5, not evidence of Ghost of Yōtei working on SharpEmu. Tom’s Hardware’s AnyPS5 coverage.

Sucker Punch has described technical systems used in the game, including GPU-compute cloth simulation, PS5 Pro ray-traced global illumination, PSSR upsampling, and SSD-assisted loading. These details show that the game uses console-specific rendering and loading work; they do not identify the cause of SharpEmu’s black-screen crash. Read Sucker Punch’s technical article.

SharpEmu’s README says the project is developed for research and educational purposes, and describes a launch flow that uses the eboot.bin of a legally obtained game. It says the project does not support or condone piracy and that development tests use console dumps of games the developers personally own. Follow applicable law and the project’s stated guidance.
