Not in the way a conventional real-money casino does. Funrize’s Terms of Use say the service does not offer “real money gambling.” They also allow for no-purchase promotional contests or giveaways that may award redeemable prizes. Those prizes are conditional: playing or entering does not guarantee a win or payment.
How Funrize distinguishes regular play from prizes
Funrize’s Terms of Use & Service Agreement, which states it was updated March 6, 2026, describes virtual coins as a license to play and says ordinary gameplay does not provide an opportunity to win real money or a prize, except through specified no-purchase promotional contests or giveaways. The terms state: “THIS WEBSITE AND THE SERVICES PROVIDED HEREIN DO NOT OFFER "REAL MONEY GAMBLING." NO ACTUAL MONEY IS REQUIRED TO PLAY, AND THE SERVICE IS INTENDED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.”

In practical terms, separate ordinary virtual-coin play from promotional entry play. A promotional entry can make a prize possible under the applicable rules; it is not an unconditional cash promise. Funrize says promotions are governed by their official rules and any additional promotion terms.

How the no-purchase mail-in entry works
Funrize publishes an Alternative Method of Promotion Entry. Its current instructions require an active account and eligibility under the stated age and residency rules. A valid and verified mail-in request results in either one Promotional Entry or five Free Plays. That is the number awarded for an accepted request, not a statement about the odds of winning or a cash payout.

The instructions require a handwritten request in a standard white #10 envelope and a handwritten 4-by-6 index card with the specified information and statement. The mailing must originate in the same state as the verified residential address. Requests may be rejected for eligibility, format, handwriting, or identity/address mismatches. The page says the procedure may change, and that the rules in effect on the postmark date govern. Read the live instructions before mailing rather than relying on a remembered checklist.
Who can participate depends on age and location
The terms require users to be over 21 or the higher applicable age of majority and list restricted territories. They state that users in California, Indiana, Maine, and Maryland may access Tournament Points mode only. The mail-in instructions also have their own excluded-state list; its scope may differ from the terms. Check both current official pages for your state before participating.

What the Illinois regulator has said
Funrize’s terms characterize the service as entertainment rather than real-money gambling. Separately, in a February 4, 2026 letter, the Illinois Gaming Board said Funrize had not been licensed or authorized by the Board and asserted that the prize offering to Illinois users violated state law. The Board demanded that Funrize block Illinois residents or stop offering prizes. This is the Board’s position in a dated letter concerning Illinois, not a nationwide finding or a court judgment.
