Often—but compatibility depends on which dbForge Studio you use, the exact database release, your computer’s operating system, and, for SQL Server add-ins, the version of SSMS or Visual Studio. Devart publishes separate compatibility and requirements lists for SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle, so check each layer rather than relying on a single dbForge-wide answer.
Check these compatibility layers separately
- Choose the product: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle Studio. Their compatibility lists differ.
- Match the database: find the exact database engine and version in that Studio’s list. A hosted service or database running on Linux may be listed separately from a standard server installation.
- Check your computer: confirm the exact Windows, Linux, or macOS version and any required prerequisites for the Studio.
- Check the integration host, if applicable: SQL Server add-ins have separate SSMS and Visual Studio compatibility lists.
- Confirm the current documentation: version lists change, and the MySQL Studio pages currently differ on newer macOS releases.
Devart’s dbForge Edge compatibility matrix gives a consolidated view across the four Studios. For installation requirements, use the specific product page linked below.

Database versions listed by dbForge Studio
| Studio | Database versions listed | Additional compatibility notes |
|---|---|---|
| SQL Server | SQL Server 2025, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016 SP1 and 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 and 2008 R2, 2005, and 2000 (limited support); LocalDB. | Devart also lists SQL Server on Linux, Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance, Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric. Add-in integration has a separate host-version list. See the SQL Tools compatibility matrix. |
| MySQL | MySQL 5.5–9.5; MariaDB 5.5–12.2; Percona 5.5–8.4. | Hosted platforms are listed separately, including Amazon RDS and Aurora and Azure Database for MySQL. See MySQL Studio requirements. |
| PostgreSQL | PostgreSQL 8.4–18. | Hosted options listed include Amazon RDS and Aurora, Azure PostgreSQL, Supabase, and Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL. See PostgreSQL Studio requirements. |
| Oracle | Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, 12c, 18c, 19c, 21c, 23c, and 26ai. | Devart also mentions Oracle Cloud, RAC, Oracle on Amazon RDS, and Oracle Client bitness considerations. See Oracle Studio requirements. |
These are the database versions shown on Devart’s cited compatibility and requirements pages, not a guarantee that every feature behaves identically across releases. Treat SQL Server 2000 as limited support, as Devart labels it.
Operating-system requirements and prerequisites
The requirements pages for the four Studios list Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11, and Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025. They list Linux distributions Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), as well as macOS High Sierra 10.13, Mojave 10.14, Catalina 10.15, Big Sur 11, and Monterey 12. Devart lists .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher for Windows.
#1 Best Overall
- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
For Linux and macOS, the Studio requirements pages state: “CodeWeavers CrossOver must be pre-installed in order to work with Linux and macOS.” CrossOver’s own system requirements also apply; consult the requirements page for your specific Studio before installing.
Newer macOS versions: check the MySQL documentation carefully
The MySQL Studio product page advertises macOS Ventura 13, Sonoma 14, Sequoia 15, and Tahoe 26. Its requirements page instead lists macOS only through Monterey 12. Because those Devart pages do not agree, do not assume the product page alone confirms installation support for a particular newer macOS release. Check the current installer guidance for the exact Studio version you plan to use.
These operating-system requirements describe the computer running the Studio, not necessarily the computer running the database server. Devart separately lists remote, hosted, and server-on-Linux options for some products, so a supported database server does not prove that every desktop OS or IDE integration is supported.

SQL Server add-ins also depend on SSMS or Visual Studio
If you are checking a dbForge SQL Server add-in rather than only the standalone Studio, compare your host application version against Devart’s SQL Tools compatibility matrix. The matrix lists SSMS versions 17 through 22 and Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2026. It also says dbForge SQL Server add-ins from version 7.0 no longer integrate with SSMS 2012 or 2014, and dbForge Visual Studio add-ins from version 7.0 no longer integrate with Visual Studio 2012 or 2013.
This is a separate check from the database version: an add-in may support a database release while its host IDE version is not compatible, or vice versa.
What to do when a version is missing or lists conflict
- Open the live requirements page for the exact Studio rather than extrapolating from a different dbForge product.
- Look for the exact database release, including whether the page marks it as limited support or names a hosted service separately.
- For Linux or macOS, verify the listed distribution or OS release and the CrossOver prerequisite.
- For a SQL Server add-in, verify the SSMS or Visual Studio version independently.
- If product marketing and requirements documentation disagree, as they currently do for MySQL Studio on newer macOS, follow the current product-specific installation guidance or ask Devart to confirm the exact configuration before relying on it.
The cited compatibility pages were checked in October 2026 and may change as Devart updates its products. Consult the live pages before making an installation decision.
