The official product page does not say whether edits autosave or how often saving occurs, so autosave is unconfirmed. Project text is Markdown, with scene summaries and notes in a TOML header.
Where does Cheese Paper store drafts?
Cheese Paper stores project files on the computer where you keep the project. Its developer describes the app as offline and says files do not have to leave your computer. The project is not described as a draft held in a Cheese Paper cloud account. See the official Cheese Paper product page.

What is in a project file?
Scene prose is Markdown, which remains readable as plain text. Scene summaries and notes are stored in a TOML header. That means the project’s writing and metadata are in files on your computer rather than only in a proprietary online draft store.

How to verify saving in your installed version
- Consult the manual for the version of Cheese Paper you have installed, looking for its save behavior and any save controls.
- Make a small, disposable edit in a project and use the app’s documented save method, if one is specified.
- Close and reopen the project, then check whether the edit remains. This is a practical check of your installed version, not a confirmed description of Cheese Paper’s general autosave behavior.
How does syncing between computers work?
Cheese Paper does not provide its own multi-computer sync service. Its developer says users who want a project on multiple computers need to arrange file syncing separately, naming Syncthing, Nextcloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox as examples on the official product page.
The developer also says Cheese Paper reads externally changed project files, including while the app remains open. That describes how the app responds to file changes; it does not make the separate sync service a backup, and the product page does not compare the services’ privacy, availability, or conflict handling. See the developer’s note about externally changed files.

The project files do not have to leave the computer unless you choose to use another service, such as one for syncing or backups. See the developer’s offline-use statement.
