Not necessarily. A 9,000mAh battery has about twice the rated charge capacity of a 4,500mAh battery when both figures are measured on comparable terms. But mAh is not a measure of screen time: how long a phone runs depends on its power use and the workload, settings, and network conditions. To establish a runtime multiplier, the phones must be compared under the same test.
What mAh tells you—and what it doesn’t
Milliampere-hours (mAh) describe a battery’s rated electrical charge capacity. Under the European Union’s ecodesign rules, rated capacity is the charge a battery can deliver over five hours under specified conditions. The same rules define battery endurance per cycle separately: the operating hours a device achieves in a defined test scenario before it shuts down because its battery is drained. The EU regulation therefore distinguishes capacity from runtime.

If two phones’ capacities were rated on comparable terms, 9,000mAh is about twice the rated charge of 4,500mAh. It does not follow that either phone will last twice as many hours. The device’s power consumption and the test workload determine how much of that charge is used per hour.

“Screen-on time” can describe very different patterns of use, so it is not a consistent comparison unless the activity and conditions are specified. Video playback, gaming, browsing, calls, and standby place different demands on a phone. Display settings and connectivity also affect the result.

- Workload: Offline video, streamed video, gaming, and mixed use are distinct tests; their results are not interchangeable.
- Settings and configuration: Brightness, refresh behavior, audio, background activity, and software can influence power use. A comparison is clearer when the test discloses these conditions.
- Network: Mobile or Wi-Fi use and signal strength can change battery consumption. Apple says battery life varies with use, configuration, mobile network, and signal strength. Its battery-test information also shows why a controlled video-playback result is not a prediction for every person’s day.
- Mixed use versus a single activity: Google says its battery-life estimates use a median profile spanning talk, data, standby, and other features. Its Pixel specifications also note that 5G service and performance depend on network capabilities and signal strength. Google’s Pixel hardware specifications are model-specific; an estimate for one Pixel should not be treated as a universal screen-on-time figure.
These factors explain why two phones with similar capacity can deliver different runtime, and why a larger-capacity phone cannot be assigned a reliable screen-time multiplier from mAh alone. The cited manufacturer guidance identifies sources of variation but does not quantify each factor’s individual effect.
How to compare battery claims fairly
When choosing between phones, look for endurance results measured under matching conditions rather than trying to convert capacity directly into hours.

- Match the activity. Compare video playback with video playback, or mixed-use testing with mixed-use testing. Do not treat standby time or a single-activity test as screen-on time for mixed use.
- Check the conditions. Look for disclosed brightness, connectivity, audio, refresh behavior, background activity, and software. If the conditions differ or are missing, the results may not be directly comparable.
- Check the capacity basis. Make sure the figures use comparable rating conventions—for example, whether they refer to typical or minimum/rated capacity.
- Confirm the exact model and market. Regional variants can differ, so verify the specific handset before applying a capacity or endurance figure to every version.
A manufacturer’s estimate can still help describe a defined profile, but it is not a guarantee of an individual’s day-to-day screen time. As Apple puts it: “Battery life varies by use, configuration, mobile network, signal strength and other factors; actual results may vary based on usage.”

A real 9,000mAh-class example
vivo’s India newsroom announced the vivo T5 Pro on April 3, 2026, stating that it has a 9,020mAh battery and 90W FlashCharge. Those are manufacturer-stated product specifications; the charging specification is not an endurance measure. The announcement does not establish a screen-on-time result or a like-for-like runtime comparison with a 4,500mAh phone, and the India-market claim should not automatically be applied to other regional variants.

What to conclude from a 9,000mAh rating
Read 9,000mAh as a large rated charge capacity, not a promise of twice the screen time or a specific number of hours. A precise multiplier requires a controlled comparison of the particular phones under the same workload and conditions; the cited sources do not establish one for a 9,020mAh phone versus a roughly 4,500mAh phone.
