Halo: Campaign Evolved remakes the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign—the story where the series begins. PlayStation’s official game FAQ answers the question “Do I need to have played other Halo games to enjoy Campaign Evolved?” with: “Not at all. This is the original story, where Halo begins.”

Xbox likewise presents the remake as an entry point. Executive Producer Damon Conn said that starting with this story lets people who have never played before understand it “from the very beginning.” The original campaign gives you the context the game expects; previous games are not a comprehension requirement.
What the remake adds to the original campaign
The remake includes the original ten-mission campaign and a new three-mission arc called Operation: METEORITE, featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. Xbox says this new story takes place one year before the events of the first game and was developed with Halo author Troy Denning. Campaign Evolved and Halo Infinite are different questions
