For previews inside Netflix, you should expect to need an active membership. Netflix describes these as previews shown while members browse its service, so that is the practical conclusion from its product information—not a universal rule that applies to every trailer. Trailers published publicly on another platform follow that platform’s access rules and may be watchable without Netflix.
The distinction matters: a Netflix app preview is not the same thing as a conventional trailer posted publicly online.

Netflix previews and public trailers are different
Netflix presents previews as part of browsing its streaming service. Its help page describes Netflix as a subscription-based service, and its product announcements describe previews as a way for members to find something to watch. Taken together, those pages support the practical inference that you need Netflix membership to view previews within the service. They do not state a universal access rule for every trailer link, title, device, or region. Netflix: What is Netflix? Netflix: Introducing Mobile Previews

Netflix has also distinguished its previews from conventional trailers. In a 2016 announcement about the TV experience, Netflix said that “video previews aren’t teasers or traditional trailers.” That was historical wording about its TV previews, not a guarantee that every current preview works the same way. Can you turn off Netflix’s autoplay previews?
Yes. Netflix provides an Autoplay Previews preference in profile settings. This controls whether previews play automatically while you browse; it does not establish that manually selected trailers have identical availability on every device.

- Open the profile settings and select the profile you want to change.
- Find Autoplay Previews and turn the setting off or on, then save if prompted.
Netflix notes that preview autoplay is not supported on iPads and some older TVs and TV streaming devices. If you cannot find or use the control on a device, try changing the preference through the browser or mobile app. Netflix Help: How to turn preview autoplay on or off
Does a more expensive plan unlock previews?
Netflix’s published plan differences focus on advertising, title availability, simultaneous viewing, picture quality, downloads, extra members, and—on Premium—spatial audio. The cited plan information does not say that you need a higher-priced tier to watch previews. The access distinction is membership versus no membership, not a documented preview feature reserved for a particular tier.

Netflix’s English-language US plan page listed these monthly prices and features on October 7, 2026. They are US-dollar listings, not worldwide prices. Netflix warns that pricing and extra-member eligibility can vary by location or when service is supplied through a package or add-on; taxes may apply. Check the Netflix page for your country and billing arrangement. The page says the Basic plan has been discontinued. Netflix Plans and Pricing

Is there a Netflix free trial?
No. Netflix says it does not offer free trials. It says members can change their plan or cancel online at any time, but that is not the same as a trial. Netflix Help: Netflix Free Trial

How long are Netflix previews?
Netflix’s April 19, 2018 announcement said its mobile previews were about 30 seconds long. That is a dated description of the format at that time, not a current specification for every preview, title, or device. Netflix: Introducing Mobile Previews
