No. Viewers can watch a livestream replay later; they do not have to watch while it is live for eligible watch time to count toward YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility. The key conditions are that the livestream becomes a video on demand (VOD) and remains public. YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD from qualified watch hours. A continuous 24/7 stream has an archive risk: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
When livestream replay views can count
YouTube’s YPP guidance defines qualified watch hours around public long-form videos, not whether the viewer watched the original broadcast live. A public livestream archive available as a VOD can therefore contribute qualified watch time when people watch it later. The rules do not guarantee that every hour from every continuous-stream setup will qualify.
- Public: The stream or its archive must be public. Unlisted and deleted livestreams are excluded.
- Available as a VOD: A livestream that is not converted to an available video replay is excluded.
- Not Shorts-feed time: Watch hours from views in the Shorts feed do not count toward the 4,000-hour route.

Why a 24/7 stream’s archive is uncertain
YouTube says live archives are uploaded by default after an event and recommends making the archive public to help it reach viewers. Its archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay or a guaranteed source of eligible hours.

Check the actual archive after each planned session: confirm that a VOD exists and that its visibility is public. YouTube’s published guidance does not specify how every continuous-stream configuration attributes watch time, so do not assume that a particular session pattern will produce a complete qualifying archive. How this relates to YPP eligibility
As stated in YouTube’s eligibility guidance accessed in 2026, the full ads eligibility route requires 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Meeting a threshold does not automatically admit a channel: YouTube reviews channels for policy compliance and other program requirements.

YouTube now uses the term “qualified watch hours”; its guidance says this replaced “valid public watch hours.” A public-view counting update that YouTube says began August 24, 2026 does not change YPP eligibility. A public view count and qualified watch hours are different measures; do not use a change in the former to infer a change in eligibility. See YouTube’s analytics guidance.
Practical checks for a 24/7 channel
- Plan around archive duration. Do not rely on one stream lasting longer than 12 hours to produce a complete archive; YouTube warns it may not be captured.
- Verify each replay. After a session ends, check that YouTube created a VOD and that it is public, rather than assuming the live broadcast was saved.
- Keep the archive available. Deleting it or making it unlisted removes it from the qualified-watch-hour cases described in YouTube’s guidance.
- Track qualified watch hours in YouTube Studio. Do not equate the stream’s live-view total or a public-view count with YPP eligibility hours.
