Not enough evidence shows that video-game players adapt faster to endovascular robotics in clinical practice. One endovascular simulator study found an association between weekly gaming hours and simulator performance, but it did not establish faster learning on a robotic platform or better patient outcomes. Studies reporting advantages for gamers on robotic surgery simulators are relevant only by analogy.
What does the direct endovascular evidence show?
A 2006 Journal of Vascular Surgery study assessed 61 participants, from students to clinicians, on endovascular simulator tasks and asked about their video-game experience. Weekly gaming hours correlated with task completion time and simulator rating scores (both P < .001). The authors distinguished these measures: extensive gaming was associated with shorter completion times, while high simulator scores were achieved by formally trained participants. Case volume and an endovascular-related occupation also correlated with performance. Read the study.

This is a correlation, not proof that gaming made participants learn faster. A completion-time association can suggest aptitude or speed, but it does not by itself show a steeper learning curve, retention, or correct performance. The study did not test whether gamers adapt more quickly to a specific endovascular robotic system.

Several studies report associations between gaming history and performance on robotic surgery simulators. They may suggest that some skills used in gaming carry over to simulated tasks, but they do not directly answer whether gamers adapt faster to endovascular robotics.

| 2019, Advances in Medical Education and Practice | 32 medical students and interns using the RobotiX Mentor to simulate urethrovesical anastomosis; gamers were defined as playing at least six hours per week. | Gamers significantly outperformed nongamers on 3 of 24 metrics. The authors called for further study. This was simulated surgery, not an endovascular robotic procedure. Read the study. |
| 2016, Journal of Surgical Education | 75 preclinical medical students using the da Vinci Si Skills Simulator. | Video-game experience was positively associated with simulator performance measures, with a stronger association for more recent gaming. This was robotic surgery simulation, not endovascular robotics. Read the study. |
| 2024, Journal of Pediatric Surgery Open | 27 participants in the Robotic Surgical Simulator Study (RS3). | Participants with a history of video gaming had 33% higher overall robotic simulator performance scores. This small study measured simulated robotic surgery performance, not endovascular procedures or patient outcomes. Read the study. |
Does repeated practice improve endovascular simulator performance?
A 2007 virtual-reality endovascular training study found that inexperienced operators improved procedure time and contrast use over six sessions and reached end-of-program scores similar to those of experienced operators. The authors concluded: “Surgeons with minimal endovascular experience can improve their time taken and contrast usage during short-phase training on a VR endovascular task.” This supports the value of practice on a dedicated simulator; it does not attribute improvement to gaming history. What is known about adapting to endovascular robotic systems?
A 2025 in-vitro study examined manual and CorPath GRX robotic catheterization by three interventional radiologists with different levels of manual catheterization experience. It studied adaptation in relation to procedural experience, not video-game history. With only three operators in a phantom experiment, it cannot establish how gaming affects adaptation across clinicians or whether any difference transfers to patient care. Read the study.

- REALISTIC TEAM-BASED TRAINING DESIGN: Specifically designed to be worn on the shoulder, this model enables two students to practice together—one acting as the nurse and the other as the patient. This collaborative approach simulates a real clinical environment, enhancing communication skills and practical technique simultaneously
- ADVANCED ELECTRONIC FEEDBACK SYSTEM: The model features an intelligent warning system with a red LED light and an audible alarm that activates immediately if the injection depth or position is incorrect. This instant feedback allows learners to correct their technique in real-time, ensuring mastery of safe intramuscular injection procedures
- REALISTIC SKIN AND TISSUE SIMULATION: Crafted with high-quality, eco-friendly PVC material, the skin has a lifelike texture and feel, closely mimicking human tissue. The surface is designed to withstand repeated punctures with minimal visible marks, providing a consistently realistic experience for thousands of practice sessions
- FLUID INJECTION AND DRAINAGE CAPABILITY: The model supports the use of simulated liquids for realistic practice. It comes equipped with a drainage tube, allowing for easy removal of fluids after each session. This feature enables repeated, clean, and hygienic practice without cross-contamination concerns
- VERSATILE, PORTABLE, AND EASY TO SECURE: Lightweight and compact at 38 x 13 x 12 cm (15 x 5.12 x 4.72 in), this trainer is easily portable for classes or demonstrations anywhere. It includes a black strap to securely fasten it to a mannequin, bracket, or human arm, making it adaptable for various training setups in schools, hospitals, and training centers
Why the studies do not settle the question
“Adapting faster” can mean several different things: starting with better baseline performance, improving more quickly over repeated attempts, retaining skills after a break, or transferring performance to clinical work. These are not interchangeable outcomes. The studies differ in participants, gaming definitions, simulator platforms, procedures, and performance measures; most examine simulated tasks rather than clinical transfer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Association is not cause: the direct endovascular gaming finding is correlational, so it does not show gaming caused better performance.
- Speed is not the same as competence: completing a task sooner does not establish that it was performed correctly or safely.
- Different platforms test different skills: robotic surgery simulator results cannot be treated as direct evidence about endovascular robotic procedures.
- Simulator results are not patient outcomes: the evidence summarized here does not establish improved patient safety or clinical outcomes among gamers.
A stronger answer would require a prospective comparison of gaming exposure and learning curves on a named endovascular robotic platform, with measures of baseline ability, improvement over practice, retention, and transfer to clinical performance. The available studies do not provide that comparison.

Should gaming be considered endovascular training?
No specific video game or consumer console has been shown by these studies to teach endovascular robotic competence. Gaming history is an exposure researchers have measured, not a validated training program. Dedicated simulator practice may improve endovascular task measures, but it is distinct from clinical training and credentialing.
