Can you play a mobile card autobattler offline?
There is no single rule for every mobile card game. “Offline support” may refer to limited access to cards or decks, not the ability to start or finish a match. Check the specific game’s current publisher support information before relying on it during a flight or somewhere without coverage.

Hearthstone
Blizzard’s April 14, 2015 mobile announcement says Hearthstone requires an internet connection to play. Blizzard support also describes limited offline collection access: players can view cards and create or edit decks while disconnected. That does not mean matches can be played offline.

Riot Games Support’s September 21, 2023 offline-availability article says the game requires online access and that no part is available offline. Because services and features can change, check Riot’s current support information before a trip.

Does Hearthstone work without Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is not the only way to connect: mobile data may also provide internet access. But Hearthstone still requires an internet connection to play, so disabling Wi-Fi without having another connection will not let you play a match. Blizzard’s mobile connection troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the app is up to date and switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data when troubleshooting connection problems.
Can you play Legends of Runeterra on a plane?
Not offline, according to Riot’s September 21, 2023 support article: it says no part of Legends of Runeterra is available offline. An aircraft’s onboard Wi-Fi might provide internet access, but whether the game works over that connection is not established by Riot’s offline-availability statement; check the airline’s service and the game’s current requirements rather than assuming it will work.

How much mobile data does a card game use?
The official pages cited here do not publish a numerical estimate of mobile data used during gameplay. They establish whether these games require online access, not how many megabytes a match consumes. A per-hour figure for one game should not be treated as typical for all card autobattlers.

A useful estimate would require measuring the specific game, version, device, mode, and time period. Without those details and a measurement, a precise data figure is not established. If you want to check your own usage, use your phone’s data-usage settings and compare readings over a defined play session; background downloads or updates can affect the total.

What to check before playing away from a reliable connection
- Match access: Confirm whether the game requires internet to play, not just to sign in or update.
- Offline functions: Check exactly what remains available, such as viewing cards or editing decks.
- Travel access: If you will depend on mobile data or onboard Wi-Fi, confirm that you have a working connection where you expect to play.
- Data use: Look for a publisher-provided estimate for the specific game, or measure your own usage; do not assume a category-wide figure.
