Yes—but only when the controller or replacement part is made for that exact Xbox model. Hall Effect thumbsticks are available in complete Xbox-compatible controllers, while a cited TMR replacement kit is designed for Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers. A magnetic joystick module described simply as “for Xbox” is not automatically compatible with every Xbox generation.
Your practical choice is between buying a complete licensed controller, installing an internal replacement that may require soldering, or using a proprietary hot-swappable module for a named controller family. Firmware support, calibration software and the controller’s model number matter as much as the magnetic-sensor technology.

What Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks actually change
Conventional thumbsticks use physical contact components to measure movement. Hall Effect and TMR designs use magnetic sensing instead. That removes the particular contact mechanism associated with ordinary potentiometer wear, but it does not make every magnetic module universal, nor does it prove that a controller will never develop an input problem.

No independent comparative testing in the available sources establishes that TMR is categorically more accurate, lasts longer or is permanently drift-proof than Hall Effect. Statements about precision, durability or drift resistance should therefore be treated as a manufacturer’s claim unless a product has suitable third-party testing.
Three ways magnetic sticks can work with Xbox
1. A complete licensed controller
The simplest route is a controller that already contains Hall Effect sticks. PowerA’s Advantage Wired Controller is officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S, also works with Xbox One and Windows 10/11, and includes Hall Effect thumbsticks. Its Gamer HQ app can test and calibrate the controller.
This avoids opening a controller, soldering or matching a replacement board. It is a different purchase from upgrading an existing Xbox Wireless Controller, however. Stock can change; the product page’s selected style was reported out of stock at the time of access, so check current availability before buying.
2. An internal replacement kit
iFixit lists GuliKit TMR replacement joysticks for Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controllers. This is an internal repair, not a plug-in accessory. The original joystick module must be removed and the new one soldered in place. iFixit classifies the work as requiring intermediate soldering skills.

The kit listing says no circuit modifications are required, but that does not mean installation is tool-free: opening the controller and soldering are still required. After installation, iFixit directs owners to update the controller and run the supported recalibration process.
3. A proprietary swappable module
Thrustmaster’s ESWAP SH5 Hall Stick Module is a hot-swap part for specified ESWAP S, X, X2 and XR controllers. It is not a drop-in replacement for the standard Xbox Wireless Controller. Its compatibility comes from the ESWAP family’s proprietary mechanical and electronic design, so owning an Xbox-compatible controller does not by itself make the SH5 fit.
A newer reported option
Windows Central reported in January 2026 that the 8BitDo Ultimate 3E is an Xbox-licensed controller with TMR sticks. That report says 1,000 Hz polling and six-axis motion controls are PC-only. Availability and final specifications should be checked at the time of purchase; a report about a product is not a substitute for confirming the retail model and Xbox feature set.

How to install and calibrate the Series X|S TMR replacement
The following applies to the cited replacement for Xbox Series X|S wireless controllers. It should not be generalized to Xbox One, Elite Series 1 or another controller revision.

- Identify the controller first. Confirm that it is an Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controller and compare its model information with the replacement listing. If it is an Xbox One controller or Elite Series 1 model 1698, this particular kit is not the recommended solution.
- Read the repair guide before opening the shell. The job requires intermediate soldering skills. If you cannot safely remove and solder a joystick module, use a complete compatible controller or a qualified repair service instead of treating the kit as a plug-in upgrade.
- Open the controller and remove the original joystick module. Follow the model-specific iFixit procedure for disassembly and board handling. The replacement replaces the existing module; it does not attach externally.
- Solder the TMR module in place. Work only after confirming the module orientation and the guide’s soldering points. Poor joints, lifted pads or heat damage can leave the controller unusable, so inspect the work before reassembly.
- Reassemble and connect the controller. Test that the controller is detected before assuming the repair is complete. A controller that is not detected may have a connector, soldering or assembly problem rather than a calibration problem.
- Update the controller firmware. iFixit’s instructions put firmware updating before recalibration. Use the supported Xbox update path for the repaired controller.
- Run Xbox Accessories recalibration. On an Xbox console, open the Xbox Accessories app and use its recalibration option. On a Windows PC, use the Xbox Accessories PC app. Complete the on-screen procedure for both sticks and save the result before testing a game.
Calibration is part of the repair, not an optional finishing touch. A newly installed sensor can report an off-center value until the controller’s supported software records its neutral position.
Do not transfer ESWAP calibration instructions to a standard Xbox controller
Thrustmaster’s ESWAP support documentation describes a separate calibration process. For ESWAP X or ESWAP XR controllers, mini-stick calibration requires firmware version 79.00 or later and supports SH5, S5 and S2 mini-sticks. That firmware threshold belongs to the ESWAP ecosystem; it is not a requirement established for the standard Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controller or the GuliKit TMR kit.
If you own an ESWAP controller, follow its own firmware and calibration documentation. If you own a standard Xbox Wireless Controller, use the Xbox Accessories workflow specified for that controller and replacement. Mixing the two procedures can lead you to look for software or firmware options your controller does not support.

What about Xbox One and Elite Series 1?
“For Xbox” is too broad a compatibility description for an internal joystick repair. The cited GuliKit kit is specifically listed for Series X|S wireless controllers, and iFixit says it is not recommended for Xbox One controllers or Elite Series 1 model 1698 because the necessary joystick calibration software is unavailable.

That does not prove that no magnetic replacement can ever be engineered for those models. It means this documented kit and workflow should not be presented as a supported solution for them. For an older controller, verify all of the following before purchasing a part:
- Exact generation and model number, not just the Xbox branding.
- Mechanical fit and connector or solder-pad layout.
- Availability of firmware support for the controller board.
- A calibration method that works with that specific model.
- Whether the supplier or repair guide explicitly names the model.

Choose by exact fit and support first, then by Hall Effect versus TMR. A theoretically attractive sensor is of little use if the module cannot be installed, updated or calibrated on your controller.

Magnetic sensing can avoid the contact mechanism used by conventional stick modules, which is why manufacturers market Hall Effect and TMR products as resistant to a common source of drift. The reviewed material does not provide an independent drift-rate study, accuracy benchmark, lifespan figure or head-to-head test between Hall Effect and TMR.
Accordingly, avoid promises such as “zero drift forever,” a guaranteed service life or a categorical claim that TMR is more accurate. A controller can still have problems caused by calibration, firmware, mechanical wear elsewhere, contamination, a damaged board or a defective replacement. The defensible statement is narrower: compatible magnetic-stick products exist, and their sensing approach may address one failure mechanism found in traditional modules.

Troubleshooting after a replacement
The controller is not detected
Check reassembly, connectors and solder joints before attempting calibration. Calibration software cannot correct a broken connection or a board damaged during installation. Confirm that the replacement is for the exact controller generation.
The stick rests off-center
Update firmware first, then run the Xbox Accessories recalibration procedure for the Series X|S kit. Do not substitute the ESWAP v79.00 process. If the stick remains off-center after supported calibration, inspect the installation and contact the part’s support channel.
Drift remains after calibration
Repeat the supported calibration once, exactly as the app requests, and test outside the game’s own dead-zone settings. Persistent drift can indicate an installation fault, a defective module or another controller problem; it is not evidence that every Hall Effect or TMR design fails.

Stop rather than forcing it. Recheck the controller model, the module’s named compatibility and whether it belongs to a proprietary family such as ESWAP. A part designed for Series X|S wireless hardware or ESWAP controllers should not be assumed to fit Xbox One or Elite hardware.
Bottom line for Xbox owners
Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks do work on Xbox controllers when the implementation is explicitly compatible. Buy a complete licensed controller for the lowest-risk option, use the documented TMR kit only for the Xbox Series X|S wireless model it names, or choose an ESWAP module only if you own the matching ESWAP controller. Confirm the model, firmware and calibration path before purchase, and treat durability or “no drift” language as a product claim rather than an independently proven guarantee.
