Yes, but only in games that implement multi-GPU rendering. AMD still documents CrossFire, yet it does not make every modern game use two graphics cards. Whether a second card does anything depends on the graphics API the game uses and on whether that game supports multi-GPU operation.
The short answer depends on the graphics API
AMD’s CrossFire configuration guidance separates games by the graphics API they run on. For DirectX 12 and Vulkan applications, multi-GPU support is handled by the application itself, so the game must support it. For DirectX 9, 10, and 11 applications, the requirement is an AMD CrossFire driver profile. The practical result is that a DirectX 12 or Vulkan label tells you nothing about whether two cards will work together.

| Graphics API | What provides multi-GPU support | Where you enable it | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| DirectX 9, 10, 11 | AMD CrossFire driver profile | AMD driver configuration. The setting’s exact location is not detailed in the AMD material covered here. | That a CrossFire profile applies to the specific title and version you run. |
| DirectX 12 | The game or application | An option in the game launcher or graphics/video settings menu, where the developer provides one | That the game lists a multi-GPU option or documents multi-GPU support. |
| Vulkan | The game or application | Same as DirectX 12: a launcher or in-game graphics option, where provided | That the game lists multi-GPU support in its settings or documentation. |
AMD’s configuration article, last updated June 19, 2025 and based on Adrenalin Edition 25.6.1, states the rule for newer APIs directly:
“With DirectX® 12 and Vulkan® 3D Applications, multi-GPU support is exclusively handled by the application and should be available as an option in the game launcher or within the graphics/video settings menu.”

ASUS Dual Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 Gaming Graphics Card
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
The same guidance says multi-GPU support and performance vary by application and graphics API. Those dates describe AMD’s documentation at the time of writing in October 2026. Newer driver releases may change the details, so check AMD’s current pages before relying on a specific menu location.
What CrossFire means today
AMD describes CrossFire as a multi-GPU technology that combines graphics cards to render 3D graphics. Its support pages still explain how to configure it, which shows the technology remains documented. It does not show that any particular game takes advantage of it. Treat the existence of AMD’s documentation as a statement about the feature, not about the games you own.

Microsoft’s Direct3D 12 documentation, under the title “Multi-adapter systems” on Microsoft Learn, describes systems with more than one adapter and scenarios in which an application explicitly targets more than one. This is a capability for developers. It does not mean a retail game splits its rendering work across two GPUs or gains speed from a second card.

How to check whether a specific game supports multi-GPU
- Find the graphics API the game uses. Check the game’s system requirements, its store page, or its developer documentation, and note whether it runs on DirectX 9, 10, 11, 12, or Vulkan.
- If the game uses DirectX 12 or Vulkan, open the game launcher or the in-game graphics/video settings and look for a multi-GPU option. If no such option appears, and the developer does not document multi-GPU support, assume the game will use one GPU.
- If the game uses DirectX 9, 10, or 11, confirm that AMD’s CrossFire driver profile applies to that title. AMD’s guidance does not publish a list of supported games, so verify against AMD’s current release notes and the game’s own documentation.
- Before buying a second card, confirm that the GPUs, motherboard slots, power supply, drivers, and game version work together. AMD’s guidance does not validate specific combinations, so check each component against its manufacturer’s specifications.
- After installing, measure performance in the same scene with and without the second GPU enabled. Compare frame rate and frame-time consistency, not just the average figure.
Common misunderstandings
- “A DirectX 12 or Vulkan game will use both cards automatically.” It will not, according to AMD’s guidance. The application must support multi-GPU, and the user must enable the option where it is offered.
- “Two cards double the frame rate.” AMD says results vary by application and graphics API. No scaling figure is given in its guidance, and none should be assumed.
- “Video memory from both cards combines.” Neither AMD’s CrossFire guidance nor Microsoft’s multi-adapter documentation promises that memory pools across cards. Plan around the memory on each card.
- “Microsoft’s multi-adapter support means games use multiple GPUs.” Direct3D 12 exposes these options to developers. Whether a given game uses them is a decision made by that game’s developer.
What is not established
AMD’s documentation does not provide a current list of games with multi-GPU support, and it does not publish game-by-game performance results. This article does not offer either. It also does not recommend a particular GPU pairing. Those claims depend on title-specific, current evidence, which you will need to gather for the games you play.
