To keep playing, you need a separate entitlement, such as buying the game for the platform you use.
Why a game stops working through Game Pass
Game Pass provides access to a changing library; it does not give you permanent ownership of every game you download. Xbox says subscribers can access library games until their subscription is canceled or expires, or until a game leaves the library. Both conditions matter: an active subscription does not preserve access to a title that has departed.

Installing a game downloads its files, but does not change the terms of your access. Once the title is no longer included in the relevant library, the subscription entitlement no longer covers it.

How to keep playing a departing game
Xbox’s stated option is to buy the game. Check the listing for the exact platform and edition you play, then confirm its current price and whether a member discount is shown. Xbox’s catalog advertises discounts of up to 20% on games leaving the catalog, but that is a general offer—not a guarantee that every departing title qualifies or that the discount will apply to your listing.

Check the departure for your plan and platform
Use the current Xbox Game Pass catalog and its “Leaving soon” collection rather than relying on an old departure list. Xbox notes that availability can vary over time and by region, plan, and platform. Check that the game is leaving the library you actually use, and review its store listing before departure because catalog entries and offers can change.
What happens to your save?
The Xbox catalog and FAQ information cited here does not establish what happens to saves for an individual game after it leaves Game Pass. If you plan to buy the game and continue, check that game’s official support information for save availability and any transfer requirements. Do not assume that a save will transfer between platforms or editions.
