The September 2023 leak was substantially accurate, but its headline left out the more important details. DJI’s Mini 4 Pro, announced on September 25, 2023, has a 1/1.3-inch CMOS camera with 48 effective megapixels, 4K recording up to 100 frames per second for slow motion, 4K/60 HDR, 10-bit D-Log M and HLG, true vertical shooting, omnidirectional obstacle sensing and O4 transmission. The 48MP figure applies to still photos—not video.
What the pre-launch leak claimed
In the weeks before launch, packaging, product images and technical information reportedly surfaced, alongside reports of a September 25 announcement and European pricing starting at about €799. Those were unconfirmed claims at the time, reported in contemporaneous coverage such as Notebookcheck’s September 2023 leak coverage.
- A 48MP camera
- A 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor
- 4K video recording
- An aircraft weighing less than 249g in its standard configuration
- A possible September 25, 2023 release
The leak did not establish the precise frame rates, color modes, codecs or the wider flight and safety changes. It also did not turn reported European prices into U.S. launch prices.
What DJI confirmed after launch
DJI announced the Mini 4 Pro on September 25, 2023. Its announcement and specification sheet confirmed the central camera claims and added substantially more detail.

What the 48MP camera actually means
Still resolution, not video resolution
The camera has 48 effective megapixels and offers both 12MP and 48MP still-photo modes. Its maximum image is 8064 × 6048 pixels, recorded as JPEG or DNG RAW. The drone does not record 48MP video; video resolution is specified separately in formats such as 4K and Full HD.
Optics and focusing
- Sensor: 1/1.3-inch CMOS
- Aperture: f/1.7
- Field of view: 24mm-equivalent
- Focus range: 1m to infinity
- Digital zoom: up to 3× for 12MP photos and 4K video; up to 4× for Full HD
More pixels can help with cropping and detailed landscapes, but they do not by themselves guarantee better images. Sensor area, lens performance, light, motion, processing and compression all affect the result. The Mini 3 Pro already used a 1/1.3-inch, 48MP-class camera, so the Mini 4 Pro’s meaningful camera progress is not simply a megapixel increase.
Every important 4K mode
| Mode | What it is useful for | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 4K at 24/25/30fps | Standard cinematic or general-purpose delivery | Normal recording modes; available with the camera’s supported encoding and color options. |
| 4K at 48/50/60fps | Smoother motion, action and 60fps delivery | DJI highlights 4K/60 HDR as a major upgrade; HDR support is frame-rate and mode dependent. |
| 4K at 100fps | Slow-motion capture | Usually interpreted on a 24, 25 or 30fps timeline; it is not ordinary 100fps playback. |
| FHD at up to 200fps | More extreme slow motion | Lower spatial resolution than 4K. |
Codecs, bitrate and color
- H.264 and H.265 recording
- Maximum video bitrate of 150Mbps
- Normal mode: 8-bit 4:2:0
- HLG and D-Log M: 10-bit 4:2:0 H.265
Normal mode is the simplest choice for quick publishing. D-Log M and HLG preserve more grading flexibility, but they require a color-managed editing workflow and are not interchangeable with an automatically finished image. The exact combination of frame rate, HDR and profile should be checked in DJI’s mode-specific specifications rather than treating every 4K setting as identical.
How big was the upgrade over the Mini 3 Pro?
DJI’s own comparison material identifies several practical improvements over the Mini 3 Pro:
Rank #2
- Ultra-Light, Palm-Sized Foldable Design - Compact and foldable, this palm-sized drone slips easily into a pocket and offers 42GB of internal storage for uninterrupted flying [7].
- 1-Inch CMOS With 4K/60fps HDR Video - 1-inch CMOS sensor captures 4K/60fps HDR video with sharp detail and vibrant colors for stunning high-quality footage.
- True Vertical Filming & 225° Flexible Gimbal Rotation - Capture creative footage with a gimbal that offers true vertical filming and 225° roll rotation from diverse angles and heights.
- Nightscape Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing [2] - Forward-facing LiDAR and vision sensors detect obstacles in all directions, enhancing safety for night flights and return-to-home.
- Upgraded ActiveTrack 360° [3] - Customizable tracking modes and enhanced stability keep subjects in focus, with faster response and safe performance for cycling and more.
- HDR video increased from 4K/30 to 4K/60.
- Slow motion moved from 1080p to 4K.
- 10-bit D-Log M and HLG were added.
- A new image-processing platform and dual native ISO fusion were introduced.
- Night Shots mode was added for low-light video.
- Simulated long exposure, improved panorama resolution and updated SmartPhoto processing expanded still-photo options.
These are manufacturer-described capabilities, not a substitute for an independent image-quality test. They explain why the Mini 4 Pro is a more substantial upgrade than the shared 48MP headline suggests. DJI’s support page documents the comparison at dji.com/support.
The features the leak did not capture
Flight, tracking and safety
- Omnidirectional obstacle sensing
- ActiveTrack 360°
- Waypoint Flight
- Advanced Return to Home
- Cruise Control
- True vertical shooting for portrait-oriented delivery
Obstacle sensing can reduce risk in complex environments, but it does not replace visual line of sight, pilot attention or compliance with local aviation and privacy rules.
Transmission and weight
The Mini 4 Pro uses DJI O4 transmission. DJI quotes a maximum transmission distance of 20km under FCC test conditions in an unobstructed, low-interference environment; that is not a normal operating-distance guarantee.
The standard takeoff weight is under 249g. The standard battery provides a maximum claimed flight time of 34 minutes. The Battery Plus is rated for up to 45 minutes, but it raises the aircraft above 249g, changing the regulatory profile. The aircraft measures 148 × 94 × 64mm folded without propellers and 298 × 373 × 101mm unfolded with propellers.

Who benefits from the Mini 4 Pro’s camera?
- Still photographers: 48MP capture, RAW files and a bright f/1.7 lens provide useful flexibility, especially for cropping and detailed scenes.
- Video creators: 4K/60 HDR and 4K/100 slow motion are the clearest gains over the Mini 3 Pro.
- Editors with a color workflow: 10-bit D-Log M and HLG offer more grading headroom than Normal mode.
- Fast social publishing: Normal mode avoids the extra conversion and grading steps of log or HDR workflows.
- Travel pilots: The standard configuration retains the under-249g advantage, while the Plus battery trades that status for endurance.
Buyers who need multiple focal lengths should also consider DJI’s Air 3. DJI’s comparison describes the Air 3 as a dual-camera drone with wide-angle and 3× medium-tele cameras, whereas the Mini 4 Pro has one wide-angle camera: DJI’s comparison page.

The headline claim held up after launch: the Mini 4 Pro has a 48MP still camera and genuine 4K video. The useful interpretation is more specific. The 48MP number describes still-image pixels, while the video story is 4K/60 HDR, 4K/100 slow motion, 150Mbps H.264/H.265 recording and optional 10-bit D-Log M or HLG. Combined with Night video, vertical shooting, omnidirectional sensing and O4 transmission, those features—not a larger megapixel number—define the Mini 4 Pro’s upgrade.
The product launched in 2023 and is not an unresolved rumor. Availability and prices can change by region; the under-249g claim applies only to the standard battery configuration, and local drone rules still apply regardless of weight.
