If a Distill.io email alert is missing, trace the process from the monitor’s latest check through change detection, conditions, email settings and account limits. A failure at any earlier step can prevent an email from being generated. Start with the monitor’s Check Log, then follow the steps below.
1. Check whether the monitor ran
Open the monitor’s Check Log and inspect its latest entry. If there is no recent check, first find out whether the monitor is local or cloud-based. A local monitor depends on the device running it: that device must be on and local monitoring must be active. Turn the monitor on and enable local monitoring if either is off. If the log reports that it is available on the device running the monitor, that points to a local monitor; it does not establish that the cloud has run the check.
2. Resolve check errors before troubleshooting email
Open the latest error’s details and inspect its captured snapshot. If the check failed, Distill may not have reached the point where it could detect a change or send an alert.

SELECTION_EMPTY: The selected page elements may be missing or may load after the check. Review the selection and page timing; adjust the selection or add an appropriate delay.- Authentication or access error: The page may require a login or block cloud access. Configure login as needed or consider a local monitor when appropriate.
Do not treat an erroring check as an email-transport problem until the monitor is checking successfully.
3. Confirm that Distill detected a change
Open Change History for the monitor. If no change is recorded, there is no detected change for Distill to alert on. A page that looks different to you may still produce no recorded change if the monitored selection excludes the changed content, the content loads after the check, or the page is no longer logged in.

4. Check whether conditions filtered out the change
Distill first detects a change and then evaluates configured conditions. A detected change that does not meet a local or global condition will not trigger the corresponding alert. Use the Condition Debugger to see how the condition evaluated, then test or refine conditions that are too strict. Distill summarizes the rule as: “Alerts are sent only when both steps succeed.” (Optimizing Alerts with Conditions.)

In the monitor’s Options, confirm that an Email action is present and that it targets the address you intend to use. Also review any applicable global actions. Distill requires additional email addresses to be verified before alerts are sent to them (Distill alert configuration).

6. Review usage and plan limits
Check your account’s current usage and quota. Distill identifies exhausted monthly resources as a possible reason checks and alerts stop, and its channel guidance also calls out email quota or plan limits. The applicable allowance depends on your account; check the current usage view rather than assuming a particular quota.
7. Distinguish a missing alert from a missing email
Use the Check Log, Change History and alert status together to identify where the chain stops:

- No recent successful check: Investigate whether the monitor is running and resolve any check errors.
- Successful check but no recorded change: Review the monitored selection, page timing and login state.
- Change recorded but no alert status: Inspect local and global conditions in the Condition Debugger.
- Alert recorded but no email received: Recheck the Email action, recipient verification and quota. If these are correct, ask Distill support to investigate the account and delivery state.

8. Consider another notification channel when appropriate
Distill lists email, SMS, mobile push, Discord, Slack, Microsoft Teams and webhook-connected apps as notification options. If email alone is failing, another channel may provide continuity while you diagnose delivery. If all configured actions are missing, return to the monitor run, change detection, conditions and account usage rather than assuming an email-only problem.
