Choose a digital G-SHOCK if you want an LCD-first face; choose an analog-digital model if you want hands alongside an LCD for additional information and functions. Neither style is automatically tougher, smaller, or more capable: those differences depend on the exact model. Compare the face, dimensions, functions, and power specifications before deciding.
What distinguishes digital from analog-digital?
Digital: an LCD-first face
A digital G-SHOCK presents information on a digital display. For example, Casio’s DW-5600WW-7 digital G-SHOCK includes a 1/100-second stopwatch, as well as Casio-listed shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance. The specific functions and ratings belong to that model, not every digital G-SHOCK.

Analog-digital: hands and an LCD
An analog-digital G-SHOCK pairs watch hands with an LCD. Casio says the GA-2100’s LCD can display timekeeping information, world time, timer, stopwatch, and alarms. The hands provide an at-a-glance analog time indication, while the LCD handles selected information and functions. See Casio’s GA-2100 product information for the series’ display and functions.
Compare the actual models, not just the display styles
These representative US listings show why the style label is not enough to predict size, weight, or battery life. Figures are Casio specifications for the named models, accessed in 2026; battery-life figures are approximate manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements.

| Model and display | Dimensions and weight | Power estimate | Other listed specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| DW-5600WW-7, digital | 48.9 × 42.8 × 13.4 mm; 53 g | Approximately five years on one CR2016 battery | Shock resistant; 200-meter water resistance; 1/100-second stopwatch |
| GA-2100K-1A, analog-digital | 48.5 × 45.4 × 11.8 mm; 51 g | Approximately three years on two SR726W batteries | Shock resistant; 200-meter water resistance |
| GA-010-1A1, analog-digital | 55.1 × 51.9 × 17.5 mm; 67 g | Approximately ten years on one CR2025 battery | Hand-shift feature moves the hands out of the way of the digital display |
The DW-5600WW-7 and GA-2100K-1A are close in weight, but they differ in shape and thickness. In these listings, the GA-2100K-1A is 11.8 mm thick and the DW-5600WW-7 is 13.4 mm. Those figures do not establish how either watch will feel or read on your wrist, and other models in both styles have different measurements.
Choose by the way you read and use a watch
- Prefer a direct digital readout? Start with digital models, then check that the exact watch has the stopwatch, timer, alarms, or other functions you need.
- Want hands as well as digital functions? An analog-digital model provides both, but check how its LCD is arranged and which information it can show.
- Need a thinner case? Compare the listed thickness of the specific candidates. Display style alone is not a reliable guide.
- Want less battery maintenance? Check the model’s stated battery estimate and whether it uses solar charging. Estimates are model-specific.
- Want phone synchronization? Verify smartphone-link support on the exact model rather than assuming it comes with every analog-digital watch.
Power and connectivity vary by model
The cited GA-2100K-1A uses two SR726W batteries and has an approximate three-year battery estimate; the DW-5600WW-7 uses a CR2016 with an approximate five-year estimate. For an analog-digital option with solar charging and phone connectivity, Casio identifies Tough Solar and smartphone link among the features of the GA-B2100 series. Those features are series- and model-specific: confirm them on the listing for the variant you plan to buy. Casio also lists an approximate ten-year battery life for the GA-010-1A1, which uses a CR2025.

Durability depends on the exact reference
Casio lists both shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance for the DW-5600WW-7 and GA-2100K-1A examples. That is not evidence that every model or regional variant has the same specifications. Check the exact product page, particularly if a rating is important for how you intend to use the watch.

- Choose digital if an LCD-first face suits you and the model’s functions, dimensions, and power arrangement meet your needs.
- Choose analog-digital if you want hands and an LCD on the same watch; compare the LCD’s functions and confirm any solar or smartphone-link feature on the specific model.
