Digital Realty says construction has begun on KIX15, a planned 24 MW commercial data center at its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. MC Digital Realty, a 50/50 joint venture between Digital Realty and Mitsubishi Corporation, is developing the facility and targets service commencement in Q4 2028. That date is a company projection, not a confirmed opening.

What is KIX15?

KIX15 is a planned data center for enterprise infrastructure—not a consumer AI product. Digital Realty describes it as the fifth data center at the KIX Campus. Its announced 24 MW figure refers to planned IT/server power capacity, rather than the capacity of MCDR’s entire Japan portfolio. Digital Realty’s October 7, 2026 announcement and MC Digital Realty’s Japanese announcement report the project details.

What does the project mean for MCDR’s Japan portfolio?

MCDR expects that, when KIX15 is completed, its Japan portfolio will comprise 10 facilities with approximately 220 MW of aggregate IT capacity. The approximately 220 MW figure is a company projection for the wider portfolio after completion, not KIX15’s capacity; it has not been presented as an independently audited total.

Who is the facility intended to serve?

The announcement identifies hyperscalers, cloud service providers, and companies deploying AI infrastructure as intended customer groups. It does not disclose pricing, signed customer commitments, or when capacity will be available to lease, so the announcement alone does not establish whether a particular organization can reserve space.
