A voice agent saying “you’re booked” is not, by itself, proof that the restaurant has a reservation for you. Finding an open time and creating a confirmed reservation are separate steps in OpenTable’s documented booking workflow. If the details are uncertain, check for a confirmation and contact the restaurant through its own channel before relying on the booking.
How can a voice agent say you’re booked when no reservation exists?
The gap is between a spoken response and a completed booking in the restaurant’s system. OpenTable’s API documentation distinguishes searching for availability from making a reservation: the latter is a separate request to confirm a previously locked slot. The five cases below organize documented workflow steps and error conditions; they are not ranked or measured causes of failed bookings.

1. Availability was mistaken for a reservation
A search can find a time that appears available, but that result is not the same as creating a reservation. OpenTable documents separate availability-search and make-reservation operations. A caller should treat the booking as unverified until the agent confirms that the reservation request succeeded and provides the restaurant, date, time, and party size.

2. The slot could not be secured, or its hold expired
OpenTable’s API documentation describes temporarily locking a slot and requiring the reservation request to confirm that lock within five minutes. Its example errors include a party size with no availability and an invalid or expired reservation token. An agent may have found a possible time without ultimately securing it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. The final booking request failed validation
Even a secured slot can fail at the reservation step. OpenTable lists errors involving invalid diner information, required credit-card details, and overlapping reservations. If the request returns an error, a script should not present that result as a successful booking.
4. The restaurant could not complete the transaction
Documented error cases include an inactive restaurant, a restaurant that does not accept online reservations, and restaurant connectivity problems. These are system or business-rule failures, not evidence that a voice agent deliberately misled the caller.

5. The spoken recap leaves no useful way to verify the record
A verbal recap is not enough to establish that the restaurant has a reservation you can identify. Ask the agent to repeat the restaurant name, date, time, and party size, and ask how to confirm the booking. Do not assume every restaurant or booking sends an email or text message.

- Check any confirmation you received. Compare the restaurant, date, time, and party size with what you requested. A message is useful evidence, but if the details are wrong or unclear, resolve that with the restaurant.
- Contact the restaurant directly if you cannot verify it. Use the restaurant’s own phone number or another official contact channel. Give the staff the details you provided to the agent and ask whether they can find the reservation. Diners do not have access to the restaurant-side reservation reports described in OpenTable’s support guidance.
- If you operate the restaurant, inspect the booking record. OpenTable says voice AI reservations appear in reservation reports under the Partner column. Its guidance is to check that the integration is active; if it appears active but bookings are missing or incorrect, contact OpenTable Support. For call behavior, scripts, or prompts, contact the voice AI provider.
What is—and is not—known about false confirmations?
OpenTable’s API documentation establishes that booking is a distinct system action and lists example error conditions. Its support guidance explains restaurant-side reporting and troubleshooting. These sources do not quantify how often voice agents give a confirmation when no reservation exists, nor do they establish that any particular failure is common. A confident voice alone cannot settle whether a booking was recorded.
