Apparently—but only in the narrow sense reported about Stranger Things. A July 28, 2022 report said creators Matt and Ross Duffer changed parts of the series after episodes had already been released, including a continuity correction and additional visual-effects work. That report does not show that Netflix launched a general editing feature or announced a catalogue-wide policy.
What the report says Netflix changed
Maggie Harrison Dupré of Futurism reported on July 28, 2022, that the Duffer brothers had discussed post-release changes to Stranger Things. One correction addressed a continuity problem involving a character’s birthday. The report also described other changes, including visual-effects work and alterations to moments from the then-recent season.

The account is based on the Duffers’ remarks, not on a published Netflix change log or an independent inspection of episode files. It therefore supports a carefully limited conclusion: at least some Stranger Things material was reportedly revised after release.

How the Duffers described the process
The brothers said, “We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about.” They also characterized some work this way: “It’s not, like, story, but you’re essentially patching in shots.” In context, those comments refer to alterations such as visual-effects adjustments rather than a viewer-facing editing tool.

What this does—and does not—prove about Netflix
The example does not establish that Netflix has a permanent, industry-wide policy of changing released programs. The available report does not document how often Netflix or its production partners revise episodes, what internal approvals are required, or whether viewers can consult a version history. It also does not establish whether additional episodes have been changed since the example described in 2022.
Calling this “Netflix allowing retroactive editing” can therefore be misleading. The reported changes were made by the show’s creators and delivered through Netflix’s stream; they were not an option that Netflix offered subscribers to edit programs themselves.

Two different meanings of “editing” on Netflix

Can you edit your Netflix viewing history?
You can hide an episode or title from a profile’s viewing activity. From the Netflix account page, open the profile’s Viewing activity, then use the hide control beside the relevant episode or title. Netflix says a hidden title will no longer appear as watched, will not be used for recommendations unless you watch it again, and will be removed from Continue Watching.

- Titles cannot be hidden from a Kids profile’s Viewing activity page.
- Viewing activity can be expanded with Show More.
- Netflix provides an option to download the activity list in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
These controls change the record associated with your profile. They do not modify the video file, remove scenes, or let you create a different cut of an episode.

What happens if you delete a profile?
Netflix’s profile guidance says deleting a profile deletes that profile’s viewing history and game saves. That is still an account-management action, not content editing.

The headline points to a reported production practice involving Stranger Things in 2022, not to a newly announced Netflix feature. The Duffers acknowledged correcting a continuity issue and making other reported changes, including visual-effects work. Netflix separately offers a way to hide titles from your own viewing history, but subscribers cannot edit the programs they stream.
