Choose Dia if you want optional AI assistance, work-tool context, and a browser whose current development is oriented toward knowledge work. Choose Arc if its Spaces, Profiles, Split View, and themes are central to how you organize browsing—and you are comfortable with its current Chromium-update-only maintenance notice. Neither is a universal winner: the practical choice depends on organization, AI and data handling, security requirements, price, and how much browser state you need to move.
How Dia and Arc organize work
Both browsers offer ways to separate and manage browsing, but their emphasis differs. Arc’s official product page foregrounds Spaces and Profiles in one window, along with Split View and themes. Dia’s plan and update pages describe Profiles and tab groups, plus features such as split view and picture-in-picture.

| Distinctive emphasis | Tab organization paired with optional AI and work-tool context | Spaces-based organization, Profiles, Split View, and themes |
If you already rely on Arc’s Spaces model, that workflow is a concrete reason to stay. If you prefer tab groups and want an assistant connected to work context, Dia is worth evaluating. The listed features do not establish that the two browsers behave identically in everyday use.

Dia’s free Better Browser tier has no AI features. The Browser Company’s plans page lists Better Answers at $20 per month, with page questions and context from tools, and Better Days at $100 per month, with six times the tasks and chats plus briefings and work outputs. The same page lists a 14-day trial with Better Days access and no credit card required. Dia’s updates list integrations and features involving tools such as Slack, Gmail, Notion, GitHub, Confluence, and Calendar across dated releases. Availability can depend on the feature and account setup; the list should not be read as a promise that every integration is available to every user or plan. See Dia’s dated updates.
The available Arc product information focuses on browser organization and does not establish a complete, current inventory of Arc AI features. So the useful distinction here is that Dia offers explicitly described paid AI plans—not that Arc has no AI capabilities.

Security and data handling are a meaningful difference
Arc’s current official product page says Arc receives Chromium updates only and recommends Dia for active security patches and enterprise-grade protection. That is a consequential vendor maintenance notice, not an independent security assessment. If patch cadence is important to your work or organization, review the live notice and decide whether Arc’s stated update posture meets your requirements. Read Arc’s current product notice.
Dia says it prioritizes Chromium updates and hotfixes, and its security page describes its approach to browser data and AI requests. Dia says conversations, history, bookmarks, and files are encrypted and stored locally by default. When an AI feature is used, the prompt and relevant context needed to fulfill the request are sent through Dia’s servers to AI partners; Dia says those partners are contractually restricted from retaining or training on that data. These are company statements, not independently verified guarantees. Read Dia’s security information.

Dia’s security page also says production access is role-restricted, logged, and reviewed, and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Its work page says Dia completed a SOC 2 Type II examination covering security, confidentiality, and privacy for calendar year 2025, with a final report issued in 2026. The report itself was not reviewed here; organizations assessing Dia should request it and check its scope, exceptions, and fit with their own requirements. Dia security; Dia for Work.
Arc’s product page says the company does not know what sites users visit or search for. That marketing-page statement is not a side-by-side review of the browsers’ privacy policies or data flows. Compare the current policies and the specific features you plan to use rather than relying on a broad label such as “private.” Arc product page.

What transfers when you switch from Arc to Dia?
Dia’s changelog documents an Arc-to-Dia importer and says custom tab names on Arc pinned tabs or favorites are preserved. It does not promise that every part of an Arc setup transfers. Before switching, identify the bookmarks, extensions, settings, Spaces, and other browser state you depend on, then check what Dia’s current importer supports and confirm the imported result. Evaluate Dia if…
- You want browser-based AI assistance and tool context, and are willing to assess its subscription terms and data flow.
- You prefer Profiles and tab groups over relying primarily on Arc’s Spaces model.
- Your organization wants documented work controls, such as SSO, MDM, and the option to disable AI on specific websites; check the current offering and request the SOC 2 report if relevant. Dia for Work
Keep or choose Arc if…
- Spaces, Profiles, Split View, and themes are the deciding parts of your workflow.
- You have reviewed Arc’s Chromium-updates-only notice and concluded that its stated maintenance posture suits your needs. Arc product page
Compare them in your own setup if…
- You are unsure whether Dia’s groups and profiles can replace your Spaces habits.
- You need to know whether extensions and browser state you rely on will survive a migration; the documented importer detail does not establish full transfer coverage.
- You are weighing a paid AI plan against a browser that meets your needs without those features. Arc’s product page does not state a paid plan price, so no price comparison is established here.

Atlassian announced on September 4, 2025, that it had entered into an agreement to acquire The Browser Company, the developer of Dia and Arc. The announcement described a plan to make Dia a browser optimized for SaaS apps and knowledge work; the announcement alone does not establish that every planned feature shipped or verify the transaction’s closing status.
