In Expert Reviews’ hands-on test, it lowered humidity more effectively in a small bedroom than in a large living room; its measured noise also makes it a poor choice for anyone expecting silent bedside operation.
What is the Devola DVH12L Platinum?
The DVH12L Platinum is Devola’s compressor dehumidifier with a replaceable HEPA filter and air-purifying mode. Devola lists a 12L/day rated extraction capacity and a 2.7L tank. That rating is a maximum under specified conditions, not a promise that it will collect 12 litres in a typical home each day.

It is important not to confuse this model with Devola’s separate DV12L. Both are 12L compressor models, but the DV12L has a dust filter and a 2L tank. National Energy Action’s energy-monitoring tests cited below are for the DV12L, not the DVH12L.

Expert Reviews reviewer Stuart Andrews tested the DVH12L over several days in a three-bedroom home, including a large living room and a smaller, north-east-facing bedroom. The results suggest room size and layout matter more than the headline capacity alone.

In a smaller bedroom
With humidity at 67%, the DVH12L brought the small bedroom to 58% after 60 minutes, 56% after another hour and 54% after three hours. After two further hours in Auto mode, the reading stabilized at 52%. These are results from Andrews’ home and test conditions, not guaranteed timings for another room.
In a large living room
In the living room, with a 35% RH target set, humidity fell from 68% to 64% in the first hour, then stayed around 63% for the next two hours. Andrews recommended a more powerful model for larger or open-plan rooms. The 35% target was the setting used during this test; the measured result did not reach it during the observation period.

Can the DVH12L dry laundry?
In a six-hour laundry test, a rack of T-shirts, socks, tea towels and underwear dried enough to put away. Jeans and sweatshirts needed another hour or two. That makes the laundry mode useful for lighter items, but it does not mean every load will be dry after six hours.

Noise and electricity use in the review
Andrews measured noise at 42.9 dBA on high and 40.6 dBA on low. The unit was audible nearby and, in the reviewer’s assessment, not easy to sleep beside. Devola’s product page lists 37 dB minimum and 40 dB maximum in its specification table, and also describes 37 dB as the lowest output. Those manufacturer figures and the review’s measured dBA readings come from different contexts.
The review recorded power use up to 171W during laundry or other intensive operation, and 20–24.7W in Auto mode when the compressor was presumed to be off. Devola’s page lists 235W in its specification table, while its descriptive copy says 180W under standard conditions. These are reported figures from different contexts; they do not establish one universal draw or a reliable hourly running cost.

Devola lists three speeds and Auto, Sleep, Laundry and Air Purifying modes, plus a 24-hour timer, child lock and continuous drainage. The hose for continuous drainage is not supplied. Devola lists a compatible HV12LHOSE hose and replacement parts, including a two-pack of DVH Platinum HEPA filters; check compatibility and availability when buying.

What does 12L/day mean in everyday use?
The 12L/day figure is a rated maximum, not a typical daily collection figure. National Energy Action explains that a rated extraction capacity depends on temperature and relative humidity; it says a 12L rating is reached only under conditions such as 30°C and 80% RH, which are uncommon in UK homes.

NEA’s published energy measurements concern the different DV12L model. In a nine-hour test, that unit used 1.11kWh and collected about 1.55 litres; five further tests recorded average consumption between 124.8W and 128.6W. Those measurements should not be treated as DVH12L performance.
Should you buy the Devola DVH12L?
The DVH12L is a better fit for a smaller bedroom or a household that wants help drying lighter laundry than for a large, open-plan living space. Its HEPA filter and air-purifying mode add functionality, but buyers should weigh that against the audible operating noise, smallish 2.7L tank and need to source a hose separately if they want continuous drainage. The cited independent test supports its use in smaller spaces; it does not establish real-world results for every home.
