Pear Prime 2027 is accepting applications until January 4, 2027. The $20,000 AI-agent competition described in a TON Foundation community announcement was scheduled for March 11–25, 2026, so its announced dates have passed; its connection to a separately surfaced event called Graph Hacks is unverified.
How the three opportunities compare
| Opportunity | What it offers | Format | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hacktoberfest 2026 | Open-source AI practice, learning, community and event-specific swag | Online challenges and local Fests during October | Developers at a range of experience levels |
| AI-agent hackathon in the TON Foundation announcement | Competitive project submissions; announced $20,000 prize pool | Two-week competition announced for March 11–25, 2026 | Builders able to ship an AI-agent project |
| Pear Prime 2027 | Career support, peer community and access to startup teams | Application-based cohort | Exceptional CS students, new graduates and early-career engineers |
What counts for Hacktoberfest 2026?
Pull requests and merge requests do not count toward Hacktoberfest 2026 rewards. The event has shifted toward open-source AI and open-weight models, with participation through online challenges, livestream check-ins, Global Hack Week activities, surveys and tool tasks. MLH and DEV manage the event with DigitalOcean, and the official event information lists more than 300 in-person and online Fests worldwide.
Online challenge schedule
DEV Challenges include a launch weekend on October 2–4, followed by four weekly rounds: October 5–11, October 12–18, October 19–25, and October 26–31. Online participation is the practical choice if you cannot travel to a local event.
What to expect at an in-person Fest
A Fest is a free, one-day event, but its format depends on the local organizer. At a Hack Day, attendees build with open-weight models or open-source AI tools and demo their work at the end; bring a laptop. Other Fests may focus on talks and workshops instead of a build competition. Check the individual event listing for capacity, judging, age requirements and swag details. Registration is through MyMLH or the local Fest listing.

Is the $20K AI-agent hackathon still open?
Not on the announced schedule: the two-week competition was set to run March 11–25, 2026, dates that have passed. A community announcement attributed to the TON Foundation described a $20,000 total prize pool split into two $10,000 tracks. It is not safe to treat it as a currently open entry opportunity without a fresh organizer announcement and official rules.
The two announced tracks
- Agent infrastructure: wallet integrations, coordination, payments, developer tools and core infrastructure.
- User-facing agents: agents that users or other agents interact with inside Telegram.
The identity of this event is not fully established. A DEV search result for an edition called “Graph Hacks: Context for AI Agents” does not provide evidence that it is the same $20,000 competition. Before committing work to any similarly named event, confirm the organizer, dates, registration status, country eligibility, submission requirements, judging rules and whether participation is online through the organizer’s official rules.

Who should apply for Pear Prime 2027?
Pear Prime is intended for exceptional computer-science students, new graduates and early-career engineers. Pear describes the cohort as deliberately small. The published selection signals include technical excellence, agency, curiosity and a clear vision; projects, research, internships, open-source work or entrepreneurship can help demonstrate those qualities. The application deadline is January 4, 2027.
What the program offers
- Access to teams at companies including Cerebras, Etched, Perplexity, HeyGen and Baseten, as well as early-stage Pear companies.
- A peer community and ongoing career coaching from Pear’s Talent team.
- Investor guidance and priority consideration for PearX if a participant later starts a company.
Pear says former Prime Engineers have gone on to companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Sierra, Vals AI and Cardless. These are program-reported examples, not an independently audited placement statistic. Pear does not publish an acceptance rate or applicant-volume figure in the information cited here, so candidates should not infer their odds from cohort size alone.
