Bungie’s latest confirmed major Destiny 2 update is Update 9.7.0, released June 9, 2026. Bungie described it as the game’s final major patch and said planned live-service content updates would end with it. That does not rule out later maintenance patches or stability hotfixes, but the official sources reviewed here do not confirm a newer October 2026 update.
What is the latest confirmed Destiny 2 update?
Update 9.7.0 is the latest confirmed major update in Bungie’s official materials cited here. The June 9, 2026 patch notes call it the “final major patch for Destiny 2.” Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide likewise says planned live-service content updates ended with this release.

So, if you have seen a claim that Destiny 2 received a new official update in October 2026, check for a dated Bungie announcement or patch-notes page before treating it as confirmed. The official sources cited here do not establish such a release.

Monument of Triumph
The update introduced Monument of Triumph, a system built around celebrating player accomplishments. Triumphs award Legendary Marks, which players can exchange for rewards including armor ornaments, accessories, and weapon engrams. Bungie’s May 21 announcement previewed the feature as part of the final planned live-service content update.

Activity, interface, and quality-of-life changes
The patch notes also cover additions and changes to activities, menus, vault features, and other game systems, alongside gameplay and quality-of-life adjustments. Bungie described its notes as “over 17,000 words”; that figure is the team’s own characterization of the notes, not an independently measured count. Will Destiny 2 still get updates?
Planned live-service content updates ended with 9.7.0, but Bungie has left room for smaller technical releases. Bungie Help says: “While we are not planning new updates to Destiny 2, we may need to release a hotfix in the future for the health and stability of the game.” The Destiny 2 Team also noted in the 9.7.0 patch notes that maintenance patches and smaller hotfixes could follow the final major patch.

That distinction matters: a maintenance patch or stability hotfix is not the same thing as a new planned content update. Bungie said Destiny 2 would remain playable after active development concluded; it did not say that the game would never receive another technical fix.

Use Bungie’s dated news and support pages to distinguish a confirmed release from a rumor or an older update appearing in a platform launcher. The official Destiny 2 news index includes later 9.7.0.3 and 9.7.0.2 entries dated July 7 and June 23, 2026, respectively. Those entries and the support guide do not confirm an October update.

If a release is announced, its official notes should identify its date and whether it changes gameplay or content, or instead addresses maintenance and stability. Do not infer a new release date from Bungie’s general update-installation guidance.

Bungie’s general update status and installation guidance is useful if your platform reports an update problem, but it is not evidence of a newly released October patch. For console download trouble, Bungie advises restarting the console and trying again; the support page also explains how to check for updates manually and directs Steam users to Valve’s update and installation support. Update availability and the displayed update name can vary by platform.
