It is a reasonable choice for a damp room that you can keep closed while it runs, or for drying laundry indoors. It is less of a bargain if your main goal is the highest possible water removal per dollar, because the headline capacity figure is a maximum measured under one specific humid test condition, and the WF-specific numbers must be confirmed for your market before you rely on them.
Which model you are actually buying
The WF suffix matters. De’Longhi’s own product page is for the DDSX225, the version without Wi-Fi. The operating manual for the DDSX225WF, along with Australian retail listings for the WF, describe the Wi-Fi, laundry and drainage features that this review covers. Most of the published performance figures come from the DDSX225 page, so they are not automatically the figures for the WF. Treat them as family-level numbers until you have checked them against your own unit.

Does it reduce dampness?
De’Longhi rates the DDSX225 at up to 25 litres of moisture removal per 24 hours. That figure is measured at 30°C and 80% relative humidity. It is a maximum for a hot, very humid room. In a cooler or drier space, the same machine will remove less water, and the manufacturer does not publish a figure for typical living-room conditions.

For a damp basement, laundry room or bathroom that stays closed, the practical question is whether the unit keeps relative humidity below the level where mould and musty smells persist. The manual’s operating range is 2 to 30°C and 30 to 90% RH, and the unit has a built-in hygrometer and humidity control, so you can set a target and let it cycle. The manual does not state a recommended humidity setpoint, so choose one based on your own moisture problem and check it with the built-in readout over several days.
Specifications, and how far to trust them
The table below separates the figures by where they come from. Only the operating limits and filter-life estimate are taken from the WF manual; the rest are DDSX225 or retailer values.

Continuous drainage: removing the bucket chore
The unit collects condensate in its tank and shuts off when the tank is full. If you do not want to empty it, use continuous drainage. The manual describes this as follows:
- Switch the unit off and unplug it before connecting anything.
- Connect the drain hose to the drain outlet on the rear of the unit.
- Run the hose to a floor drain, sink or outdoor outlet that sits lower than the unit’s outlet. Water must flow downhill the whole way.
- Check that the hose has no kinks, loops or sags that could trap water. If water flows back toward the unit, the hose is either too high or blocked.
- Plug the unit in, run it, and confirm that water leaves through the hose and not onto the floor.
A retailer states that a drain hose is included with the Australian listing. Buyers who need a longer run have reported that the supplied hose was short, so measure your route before you buy. Any replacement or extension hose should be checked against the unit’s outlet size and be installed with the same downhill route.
Laundry mode and indoor drying
The laundry function adjusts fan speed and dehumidifying output automatically. De’Longhi’s product page describes the result this way: “The laundry function’s automatic settings optimise ventilation speed and dehumidifying capacity, so that clothes are perfectly dry in no time.” That is the manufacturer’s description. It is not a measured drying-time guarantee, and drying time will depend on load size, room size, air temperature and how closed the room is.
Closed-room drying works best with the door shut and the load spread out. Buyers who use it this way have written that clothes dried indoors without a noticeable musty smell. These are individual purchaser comments, not independent tests, and they do not show how long a particular load takes.

The manual says app control needs a home Wi-Fi network with internet access. Without that connection, the unit still works using its own controls, but you cannot use the app for remote changes or status checks. The manual does not describe third-party voice assistant integrations, so do not assume one exists for your app version or country.
Filters and upkeep
Dust filter
The manual recommends cleaning the dust filter regularly, and weekly if the unit runs every day. Switch it off and unplug it, vacuum dust from the filter, and rinse with warm water if it needs more than that. Do not use water hotter than 40°C. Let the filter dry completely before refitting it.
E12 air filter
The manual describes a replaceable HEPA-type E12 filter for air filtration, alongside a dust and silver-ion filter. The unit shows a replacement indicator after a set number of operating hours. The manual’s life estimate of up to nine months assumes eight hours a day at medium load. If you run it harder, or the air is dusty or smoky, replace the filter sooner. The manual directs owners to original De’Longhi filters.
Retailer listings do not agree on whether the E12 filter is included with the unit. Check the box contents before purchase, and confirm the part number on De’Longhi’s official parts listing for your country before buying a replacement.

Noise and placement
The listed noise range is 42 to 47 dBA. The lower figure is the quietest setting and the higher figure the loudest. Noise matters most in a bedroom, home office or living area, so place the unit where its fan will not be next to a bed or desk. Its 13.5 kg weight and 600 × 383 × 257 mm footprint are manageable for most floors, but you will need room for the hose if you drain continuously.
Before you buy: a short checklist
- Confirm the exact model code (DDSX225WF) and the rating plate figures for your country.
- Decide whether you need continuous drainage, and measure a downhill route to a drain or outlet.
- Check whether the E12 filter is in the box, and look up the current replacement price and availability.
- Confirm you have home Wi-Fi with internet access if you want app control.
- Check the local warranty terms and the operating limits of 2 to 30°C and 30 to 90% RH against your space.
- Test your own humidity for a few days before buying, so you know whether your room is likely to hit the unit’s 25 L maximum.
Who this model suits
The DDSX225WF suits people who want a dehumidifier for a closed damp room, indoor laundry drying, and fewer trips to the tank, and who are willing to set up a hose and keep the filter clean. It is a weaker choice for people who need a quiet unit for a bedroom, who cannot route a drain hose downhill, or who are comparing it only on maximum litres per day. For those comparisons, use like-for-like test conditions and check the temperature and humidity at which each figure was measured.
