Its standout feature is the cold-extraction mode: De’Longhi says it can make a cold-brew-style drink in less than five minutes. TechRadar’s hands-on review praised its compact size and reported good shots when using a fine grind, but also noted post-shot dripping and confusing indicator lights. Those are that reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee of every machine’s performance.
What the Dedica Duo EC890 does
The EC890 is part of De’Longhi’s Dedica line, but it is more than a basic hot-espresso machine. The US EC890M listing provides three drink presets—Espresso, Double Espresso and Cold Brew—and a steam wand for preparing milk drinks. It is a manual machine, so the presets do not remove the need to set up the portafilter and manage the coffee-making process.

The controls use touch icons, according to De’Longhi’s US listing. The same listing specifies a cool-touch steam wand and a removable drip tray. These features describe the US model; check the local product page for the controls, electrical rating and included parts of the version sold in your market.
How the cold-brew mode differs
De’Longhi describes the EC890’s cold-brew function as using its Cold Extraction Technology and claims it can make a cold-brew-style drink in less than five minutes. TechRadar’s 2025 review explains that ambient-temperature water bypasses the heater and describes the resulting drink as mellow. The sub-five-minute timing is the manufacturer’s claim, while the taste description is the reviewer’s assessment.

Cold extraction is not the same process as steeping coffee grounds in water for many hours. TechRadar characterized the EC890’s method as slower than making hot espresso but faster than traditional overnight cold brewing. The actual preparation time and flavor will depend on the recipe and coffee; neither source establishes one result for every user.

The listed 13-inch depth and 5.9-inch width make the US model relatively narrow on a counter, though you should allow additional room to handle the portafilter and use the steam wand. The stated maximum cup height is a useful check if you normally brew into a tall travel mug; De’Longhi lists the maximum, but does not establish that every taller vessel will fit.
What the hands-on review found
TechRadar published its review on September 29, 2025, after reporting the machine’s August 2025 launch. The reviewer called it an excellent entry-level machine and said it produced good shots consistently with a fine grind. The review also reported that the machine takes some time to heat, that some dripping continues after the pump stops, and that the colored status and error indicators can be confusing. These are attributed review findings, not independently verified performance claims for every unit.

The practical implication is that grind quality and learning the controls matter. If you already have a grinder capable of producing a fine espresso grind, that may help you get closer to the results TechRadar described. A grinder was not identified as an included accessory, and the review does not establish that any particular grinder is required.
Dedica Duo EC890 versus Dedica Style EC685
The most clearly established difference is the cold-extraction feature: TechRadar identifies it as a major distinction of the Duo. The reviewer also notes changes to the drip tray and steam wand. The available specifications do not provide a like-for-like measurement table for both models, so dimensions and other differences should be checked against the exact regional listings rather than inferred.
