Dell System Update (DSU) versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 are affected by five vulnerabilities in Dell’s DSA-2026-324 advisory. The most severe, CVE-2026-86360, is a path traversal flaw that Dell says could let an unauthenticated attacker with remote access execute code as root. Dell identifies DSU 2.3.0.0 or later as remediated and recommends upgrading at the earliest opportunity.
What is the Dell DSU vulnerability?
CVE-2026-86360 is a path traversal vulnerability in Dell System Update. Dell rates it Critical and assigns it a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.6. Under the conditions described in the advisory, an unauthenticated attacker with remote access could potentially access files and leverage the flaw to execute arbitrary code with root privileges. Dell warns that successful exploitation could completely compromise the vulnerable application and its underlying operating system.

DSU is a command-line deployment tool used by enterprise IT administrators to deploy BIOS, firmware, and software updates to Linux and Windows systems on Dell PowerEdge infrastructure, according to BleepingComputer. Administrators should identify deployed DSU versions and update instances earlier than 2.3.0.0. The advisory identifies DSU by version; it does not say that every PowerEdge server is affected or provide a count of vulnerable installations.

Has the flaw been exploited?
The available reporting does not establish active exploitation. BleepingComputer reported on October 5, 2026, that Dell had not flagged the five flaws as actively exploited. Help Net Security reported on October 6, 2026, that Dell’s advisory did not state whether any had been exploited in the wild. These reports do not prove that exploitation has never occurred.
