Dell says Dell System Update (DSU) versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 are affected by five vulnerabilities. Update to DSU 2.3.0.0 or later; Dell’s advisory does not prescribe uninstalling DSU. The most severe listed issue could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute code with root privileges, but the five findings have different prerequisites and potential outcomes.
Which Dell System Update versions are vulnerable?
Dell’s DSA-2026-324, last modified October 1, 2026, identifies all DSU versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 as affected. Dell names DSU 2.3.0.0 or later as remediated. This applies to Dell System Update, a script-optimized utility for deploying Dell Update Packages to PowerEdge servers; it should not be confused with Dell’s similarly named client update utilities.

Dell’s separate general DSU article, last modified June 1, 2026, lists version 2.2.0.1 for Linux and Windows. That older listing predates the security advisory, so use the October advisory—not the earlier general article—to determine the security fix threshold.
Am I affected?
Check the installed DSU version on each relevant PowerEdge server. If it is earlier than 2.3.0.0, it falls within the version range Dell identifies as affected; version 2.3.0.0 or later is the stated remediated range. Use Dell’s official support or software-download route and select the package for the server and operating system in your environment.

“Affected” describes the installed version, not evidence that an attack has happened. Dell’s advisory does not establish whether a particular server is reachable by an attacker in its network configuration or whether it has been compromised.
What vulnerabilities does Dell list?
Dell rates DSA-2026-324 Critical. The table summarizes the five findings and their published CVSS base scores. Attacker access and potential consequences differ by finding; the scores and descriptions below are Dell’s published assessments.

| CVE | Issue and attacker conditions | Potential consequence | Dell CVSS base score |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVE-2026-86360 | Path traversal; unauthenticated remote attacker | Filesystem access and arbitrary code execution with root privileges | 9.6 |
| CVE-2026-86361 | Incorrect permission assignment for a critical resource; low-privileged local attacker | Privilege escalation | 8.2 |
| CVE-2026-86362 | Improper access control; low-privileged local attacker | Privilege escalation | 8.2 |
| CVE-2026-63697 | Improper certificate validation; high-privileged remote attacker | Remote execution | 7.6 |
| CVE-2026-71168 | Path traversal; low-privileged local attacker | Remote execution | 7.3 |
The highest-rated issue, CVE-2026-86360, is the one Dell describes as potentially enabling unauthenticated remote code execution with root privileges. The other findings require different access conditions, so the advisory should not be read as saying every issue has the same route of exploitation. Dell’s Vulnerability Response Policy says its Security Advisories are authoritative if there is a discrepancy with other evaluations or CVSS values.
How do I update Dell System Update?
- Identify the installed version. Check DSU on each PowerEdge server you administer and record its operating system and model so you can select the appropriate Dell package.
- Get the fixed release from Dell. Open DSA-2026-324 and follow its official Dell download link to obtain DSU 2.3.0.0 or later. Verify the package is intended for the server and operating system.
- Follow the package instructions. Use the instructions provided with Dell’s package for your specific environment. Dell’s advisory prescribes upgrading but does not establish a universal command or installation sequence for every operating system and deployment.
- Confirm the installed version. After applying the update, verify that DSU is 2.3.0.0 or later on each server where it was installed.
Dell says, “Dell recommends customers upgrade at the earliest opportunity.” That recommendation appears in DSA-2026-324 alongside the most severe finding.

- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Should I uninstall Dell System Update?
Dell’s stated security remediation is to upgrade DSU to version 2.3.0.0 or later. The advisory does not instruct administrators to uninstall DSU or provide removal steps. If a server no longer needs the utility, consult Dell’s environment-specific guidance or your organization’s server-management process; uninstalling is not the fix Dell specifies for these vulnerabilities.
