Deadlock and Dota 2 are both Valve multiplayer strategy games, but they are not equivalent alternatives right now. Valve describes Deadlock as an early-development game with experimental gameplay and access limited to invitations from playtesters. Dota 2 is presented as a free-to-play 5v5 action RTS with a roster of over a hundred heroes. That difference in maturity and availability should shape any comparison.
First, account for Deadlock’s development status
Valve’s Steam listing for Deadlock warns that the game is in early development, with temporary art and experimental gameplay. Its official site says access is currently limited to friend invites through playtesters. Because access can change, check the official page for the latest status before planning to play.

Dota 2, by contrast, is presented on Valve’s official site as a free-to-play 5v5 action RTS. Its official description is a picture of an established game, not a statement that its design or balance will never change. Still, its current format and roster description offer a firmer basis for comparison than Deadlock’s experimental state.

Combat perspective and controls
The available official descriptions do not provide enough detail to make a reliable, current account of Deadlock’s combat inputs or movement, or to compare them with Dota 2’s moment-to-moment controls. The distinction suggested by the games’ broad labels—Deadlock versus Dota 2 as an action RTS—should not be treated as a complete mechanics guide.

- Size:300*260*3MM Material: Cloth + natural Rubber
- Adapted Natural Pigment coating, improve mouse reaction. Design for pro gaming
- Waterproof, nonskid, Catcher
- One year warranty
- Peru Doto best Doto!!!
If this is the deciding factor, look at current gameplay from the build you can access and ask whether you prefer aiming and direct movement or the control and targeting demands of an action RTS. That is a way to evaluate your own preference, not a sourced ranking of either game’s mechanics.
Teams, objectives, and match structure
Valve explicitly describes Dota 2 as a 5v5 team game. The cited official information does not establish Deadlock’s current team format or objective details, so a precise side-by-side account would overstate what is confirmed here. Deadlock’s experimental status also means that details in a particular build may not be settled.

Heroes, builds, and strategy
Dota 2’s official page emphasizes a broad selection of heroes—“over a hundred,” in Valve’s current wording—and describes strategies and tactics to discover. Those are useful signals of variety and strategic scope, but they do not quantify difficulty or prove that Dota 2 is harder than Deadlock.
For Deadlock, the official pages establish early development and experimental gameplay, not a stable roster count or a settled account of its build systems. Treat specific hero or system comparisons as provisional unless they are verified against the current build.

Which game is a better fit?
Choose Dota 2 if you want an available, free-to-play starting point
Dota 2 is the clearer choice if you want a game Valve currently presents as free-to-play and built around 5v5 matches, with a large hero roster. Its official page also frames it as an action RTS with strategies and tactics to learn.
Consider Deadlock if you are interested in an evolving playtest
Deadlock may suit you if you are comfortable with experimental gameplay and temporary presentation—and can get access through the current invite route. Do not assume it is a finished, generally available substitute for Dota 2.

Bottom line
There is no evidence here for a universal winner, or for a claim that one game is easier, more competitive, or objectively better. The practical distinction is clearer: Dota 2 is Valve’s free-to-play 5v5 action RTS, while Deadlock remains an early-development game with invite-limited access. Compare the specific mechanics that matter to you in the versions currently available.
