Choose Dashlane if you want one paid plan to cover a larger household, or value its listed VPN and phishing alerts. Choose LastPass if six separately encrypted family vaults fit your needs or you want its documented FIDO2 hardware-key vault login. For either service, confirm the current checkout price and the features available on your plan and devices before subscribing. The evidence here does not establish a dependable price winner.

Which service fits your situation?
For one person
Both vendors list a paid individual option: Dashlane Premium and LastPass Premium. Compare the features you will actually use and the total price shown at checkout rather than assuming one service costs less. The retrieved official pages did not expose reliable numeric prices.
For a household
Dashlane Friends & Family is listed for 10 accounts. LastPass Families offers six separately encrypted vaults. The difference is not just the number of people: consider whether every person needs an individual account, how you want to share credentials, and which plan benefits apply to each member. Dashlane lists VPN for the plan manager, not the other family members.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
For use across devices
Dashlane lists unlimited devices on its personal plans. LastPass Free is restricted by device type, while Premium is presented as working across devices. “One device type” is not the same as “one device”: check the current plan definition if you need access from both a phone and a computer.
If bundled extras matter
Dashlane Premium lists a VPN, dark-web monitoring and real-time phishing alerts. LastPass lists dark-web monitoring and other vault and security features; the retrieved pricing page also showed a separate Plus plan with a VPN limited to Windows. Check whether an extra is included in the plan you are considering and whether it supports your operating system. Do not choose a password manager on the assumption that a bundled VPN works on every device.

- Unit auto-locks for 30 minutes after 5 consecutive incorrect PINs
How to compare current prices
A reliable dollar comparison is not possible from the available official pricing pages: their current numeric fields appeared blank or as placeholders. Dashlane says its personal plan prices changed starting in mid-February 2026, and existing customers whose price changes are notified before renewal. That does not determine the price for a particular country, subscriber, or renewal.
- Open each vendor’s official pricing or checkout page and select the same country and equivalent plan type.
- Compare the same billing period, such as monthly with monthly or annual with annual, and note the total charged—not just a per-month equivalent.
- Check whether the displayed amount is introductory or recurring, what the renewal price will be, and whether taxes are added.
- For a family plan, compare the cost against the number of accounts or vaults you will use and the benefits each member actually receives.
Older comparison pages and search snippets should not substitute for the checkout amount: prices, promotions, billing routes and taxes can differ.

Passwordless login and security keys
Both services document passwordless or passkey-related capabilities, but support depends on the product, plan and platform. Dashlane’s documented security-key login applies to its web app and personal plans, with limits. LastPass documents FIDO2 hardware-key vault login and names YubiKey and Feitian as examples. Check the current setup instructions for your exact account and device before relying on either option.
A compatible FIDO2/WebAuthn hardware key is optional, not a requirement for ordinary password-manager use. If you plan to buy one, verify that it works with the relevant app, browser, plan and device; support for one login flow does not imply compatibility everywhere.
Rank #4
- FIDO-ONLY FUNCTIONALITY: Supports FIDO2 (passkeys) and FIDO U2F protocols for passwordless and second-factor authentication. Does not support OTP, TOTP, Smart Card (PIV), or other advanced features - upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series for extended functionality
- SECURE AND CONVENIENT: Passwordless MFA login with the YubiKey Bio authenticator and biometric information using a fingerprint, with a PIN as a fallback. Simply plug in via USB and use your fingerprint to authenticate
- DEVICE & OS COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Works seamlessly with supported services like Google and Microsoft accounts, and major password managers. See the full compatibility list at "Works With YubiKey"
- DURABLE & RELIABLE: Resistant to tampering, water, and crushing. No batteries or network connectivity required, offering dependable authentication without any downtime. Securely manufactured in USA & Sweden
- Yubico Authenticator App - Fingerprint enrollment, passkey management and PIN configuration available via the app app - Upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series to generate one-time-passwords (OTP) via Yubico Authenticator and for advanced compatibility (OATH, PIV)
What the security evidence does—and does not—show
An ETH Zurich summary published February 16, 2026 describes a comparative study of Bitwarden, LastPass and Dashlane under a malicious-server threat model. Researchers reported demonstrating seven attacks against LastPass and six against Dashlane. The summary says the attacks ranged from targeted integrity violations to compromise of vaults within an organization, and that researchers could access or change passwords in many cases. It listed the work as forthcoming at USENIX Security 2026. Kenneth Paterson, Professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, said, “We were surprised by the severity of the security vulnerabilities.” Read the ETH Zurich study summary for its scope and context.

Those results describe attacks demonstrated in the study’s stated threat model. They do not establish that ordinary users’ vaults were broadly compromised. The attack counts are not a direct measure of the probability that a typical customer will be hacked, nor do they by themselves rank the two services for every person or setup.
Security.org’s comparison, updated May 13, 2026, assigns Dashlane a SecurityScore of 8.9/10 and LastPass 8.1/10. These are Security.org’s ratings, not universal security scores; read them in light of that publisher’s criteria rather than as an objective guarantee of protection.
Business plans are a separate decision
Personal and household plans are not a substitute for evaluating a business password manager. Organizations should assess administrative controls, employee provisioning and offboarding, security policies, auditing, support, contractual terms and procurement requirements against their own needs. Dashlane’s business comparison says its feature research reflects publicly available information as of May 2026; its claims about why Dashlane is better are vendor-authored marketing, not independent findings. Validate any business feature against current product documentation and the organization’s requirements before making a procurement decision.
