What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: Cypress can save screenshots, but it does not compare them with approved baselines. Percy adds a hosted visual-regression workflow to Cypress: it captures DOM snapshots, renders them across browsers and responsive widths, and supports review and approval. Cypress Cloud publishes its own plan prices, but those are not Percy prices and are not required to use the free, open-source Cypress App. A dependable current Percy price could not be established from the available public pricing claims, so verify it directly before budgeting.
What Cypress screenshots do—and do not do
Cypress provides screenshot capture, not built-in visual comparison. Use cy.screenshot() to take a screenshot at a chosen point in a test. During cypress run, Cypress also captures screenshots for test failures by default; the behavior can be disabled through configuration. The default output folder is cypress/screenshots, unless you change screenshotsFolder. Cypress screenshot documentation
A failure screenshot is an artifact for debugging. It does not tell you that a page’s current appearance differs from an approved image. As Cypress’s visual-testing guide puts it: “Cypress does not perform image comparison itself.” Cypress visual-testing guide
What Percy adds to a Cypress test
Visual regression testing captures a page, compares it with an approved baseline, and lets a person review meaningful differences. This can catch a styling regression even when functional assertions pass—for example, a completed todo item that no longer has its expected line-through style.

Percy integrates with Cypress rather than replacing its functional test runner. In a Cypress test, the integration uses cy.percySnapshot(); Percy then renders snapshots in its cloud across browsers and responsive widths and provides a review and approval workflow. Cypress guide to visual testing
How the workflows compare
| Decision area | Cypress capture or local comparison | Percy hosted workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | Capture manually with cy.screenshot(), or collect failure screenshots during cypress run. |
Capture snapshots through the Cypress integration. |
| Image comparison | Cypress itself does not compare images; add a plugin or another service. | Percy supplies cloud rendering and visual review. |
| Baselines and approvals | With an open-source plugin, the team commonly manages image baselines alongside code and maintains the workflow. | Baseline review and approval are managed in the service. |
| Browsers and widths | Coverage generally depends on the configured environment unless the team builds additional coverage. | The Cypress guide describes rendering across browsers and responsive widths. |
| Rendering consistency | The team owns consistency across local and CI browsers and environments. | Rendering is controlled in Percy’s cloud. |
| Cost basis | An open-source plugin may be free, but infrastructure and maintenance take team effort. | Check the current Percy plan and usage terms; a dependable public price was not established here. |
These are workflow distinctions, not a claim that every open-source plugin offers the same capabilities or that every Percy plan includes every capability.

Cypress Cloud pricing is separate from Percy pricing
Cypress’s pricing page lists Cypress Cloud plans. The figures below were displayed on the vendor page checked on October 3, 2026. They are not visual-regression prices and do not represent a required charge for the Cypress App, which Cypress describes as free and open source. Cypress Cloud is a companion service for recorded runs, collaboration, and artifacts. Cypress pricing
| Cypress Cloud plan | Displayed price and allowance |
|---|---|
| Free | 500 test results per month; no credit card required. |
| Team | $67 per month when billed annually ($799 per year); 120,000 test results per year. |
| Business | $267 per month when billed annually ($3,199 per year); 120,000 test results per year. |
| Enterprise | Custom pricing; the plan comparison showed 1.8 million test results per year. |
The page also displayed on-demand results at $6 per 1,000 for Team and $5 per 1,000 for Business, while its FAQ separately says additional results cost $6 per 1,000. Confirm the applicable overage rate and plan terms on the live page before relying on either figure. Cypress says Cloud counts individual it() test results recorded with --record: local runs and skipped tests do not count, and retries count as one result. These plan allowances and prices can change.

- Transformation design: Color blind people will see a different sign than people with no color vision handicap.
- Hidden digit design: Only colorblind people are able to spot the sign. If you have perfect color vision, you won’t be able to see it.
- Classification design: This is used to differentiate between red- and green-blind persons. The vanishing design is used on either side of the plate, one side for deutan defects an the other for protans.
What Percy costs—and what to verify
No dependable current Percy price was established from the public pricing claims available for this article. Percy-owned pages returned inconsistent plan names, prices, and snapshot limits, so selecting one set of figures would risk misleading you. Check the current Percy or BrowserStack pricing page or request a quote. No Percy quote was obtained for this comparison.

Choose based on the comparison work you need
- Choose Cypress screenshots alone when you need images to inspect after test failures or for debugging and do not need automated baseline comparison.
- Choose a local visual-testing plugin when you want baseline comparisons and are prepared to own its setup, CI environment, rendering consistency, and review process. The exact features depend on the plugin.
- Evaluate Percy when a hosted workflow, cross-browser and responsive rendering, and visual review and approval are useful to your team. Compare the actual plan and usage terms you are offered; do not substitute Cypress Cloud pricing for a Percy quote.

If the job is to obtain a clean screenshot artifact rather than compare UI changes with approved baselines, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a replacement for Percy’s visual-regression review workflow. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For example, save a WebP capture of Stripe with cURL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options. Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses report the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
