On September 15, 2026, Cypress updated Cloud MCP with compact responses by default, tools for retrieving specs and test results from a run, status filters, more detailed timing and run metadata, and deeper Accessibility and UI Coverage report links. Cypress says the update is already live for connected users, who do not need to change their setup.
What changed in the September 2026 update?
Cypress Cloud MCP connects an AI coding assistant to Cypress Cloud run data, letting engineers investigate results through an assistant instead of assembling context manually in the dashboard. The September update is designed to provide more spec and test detail while keeping initial responses compact. Cypress outlined the changes in its September 15 announcement; its Cloud MCP documentation describes the integration.

Compact responses by default
Tools now return a compact response first, and an agent can request additional fields when a question requires them. Cypress says this is intended to return detail where it matters rather than every available field on every call. The announcement publishes no measured token savings or performance benchmark.

Spec and test detail
cypress_get_specsretrieves per-spec details for a run.cypress_get_testsretrieves individual test results within a run.
The Cypress Cloud release index also lists these two tools as September 15 additions.
Filters, durations, and run context
Status filters can narrow results by run, spec, or test status. Durations are available at four levels: run, spec, test, and individual attempt. Run data also includes commit_author and ci_build_id, adding source and CI context to a result.
Deeper accessibility and UI Coverage links
Accessibility and UI Coverage tools now surface links into report views and rule failures. Those links can help an investigation move from a run result to the supporting report details.
What can developers investigate with the added detail?
The new result levels let an assistant move from a broad run question to the specs and individual tests behind it. Filters help narrow the results, while timing at multiple levels can help identify whether elapsed time is concentrated in a run, spec, test, or attempt. The added commit and build identifiers provide more context for associating the run with source and CI activity.
Cypress gives this example prompt: “For the latest passing run on main, give me a release report: who authored the commit, which specs ran, and which tests were skipped.” A follow-up can ask for more detail about a particular spec or test. These are capabilities described by Cypress; the cited announcement does not report independently measured gains in speed or productivity.
Do existing users need to update or reconnect?
No. Cypress says the September changes are live for users already connected, with nothing to update. Cloud MCP reached general availability on May 20, 2026, and Cypress documents it as included with every Cypress Cloud plan at no additional cost.
How to enable Cloud MCP if you are not connected
Cypress’s GA announcement says to enable the integration from your organization’s Integrations page, then connect an AI client to https://mcp.cypress.io/mcp. Cypress recommends OAuth; personal access tokens remain available for clients that require them. Check the GA setup announcement and current documentation for client-specific connection instructions and authorization requirements. The assistant must be connected and authorized for the relevant Cypress Cloud project to access its run data.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for capturing web pages
Cypress Cloud MCP is for investigating Cypress test runs. If you also need screenshots of live web pages, ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. It provides screenshot capture and PDF output through a single GET request, as well as MCP tools for AI agents. It is not a replacement for Cypress run data or test-result tools.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOr skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots per month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the update does—and does not—establish
The September release specifies new tools, fields, filters, timing levels, and report links. Cypress’s cited materials do not provide a numeric token-savings figure, speed benchmark, adoption count, or productivity study for this update, so those benefits should be treated as intended workflow improvements rather than measured outcomes.
