Cybermes is an offensive-security framework that connects AI workflows with reconnaissance, security tools, evidence handling, and report generation. A September 2026 Hackers Arise walkthrough describes using it against a local OWASP Juice Shop installation, reporting an IDOR/BOLA finding and then checking JWT handling and SQL injection. Those are the author’s observations, not independently reproduced results or proof that Cybermes will find the same issues on another target.
What Cybermes is—and what it is not
Cybermes is designed to coordinate security-testing tools and AI-assisted workflows; it is not itself evidence that an application contains a vulnerability. Its maintainers describe two main operating modes: a standalone command-line interface (CLI), which includes a terminal user interface (TUI), and an MCP server that exposes security tools and context to external AI assistants. The reasoning client and the way tools are invoked differ between those modes.

According to the project documentation, Cybermes includes more than 200 offensive playbooks, integrations for reconnaissance and scanning tools, target-scoped evidence organization, and report output in Markdown, JSON, HTML, and PDF. The maintainers also describe support for Windows, Linux, macOS, and Docker. These are project descriptions, not independent measures of detection quality, reliability, or suitability for a particular engagement. Cybermes project documentation
What the Juice Shop walkthrough reports
In an article dated September 14, 2026, Co11ateral describes installing and configuring Cybermes on Kali Linux and using it against an OWASP Juice Shop instance hosted locally. The walkthrough is a single author-reported exercise; it should not be read as an independently verified test.

IDOR/BOLA investigation
The walkthrough uses the TUI to investigate insecure direct object reference (IDOR), also called broken object level authorization (BOLA). The author reports confirming a BOLA issue and says the investigation took fifteen minutes. That duration applies to this one walkthrough, not to expected performance generally. The article also describes generated report files and proof-of-concept material.
JWT and SQL injection checks
After the BOLA investigation, the author says they used the CLI to check JSON Web Token (JWT) handling and SQL injection (SQLi). The article does not establish independent validation of those checks or provide a controlled comparison of their accuracy. Co11ateral’s Cybermes walkthrough

CLI or MCP: which workflow fits?
| Workflow | How you interact | Where the reasoning model comes from | Good fit when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standalone CLI/TUI | Run Cybermes in the terminal and use its command-line or terminal interface. | The walkthrough configures an OpenRouter API key; the project’s documentation describes the CLI as a standalone workflow. | You want to work directly in Cybermes and keep the test workflow in a terminal. |
| MCP server | An external AI assistant calls Cybermes-provided security tools and uses its context. | The external AI client supplies the reasoning model. | You want to connect Cybermes tools to an AI assistant that supports MCP. |
The project documents both approaches, but the available information does not provide a controlled speed, accuracy, or effectiveness comparison. Choose based on the interaction style and integration you need, not an assumed performance advantage. Cybermes project documentation
Scope and authorization come first
Only test systems you own or have explicit permission to assess. The walkthrough’s target is a local Juice Shop instance, not a public website. Cybermes documentation describes scope checks and isolated workspaces, but configuration cannot grant permission to test a system.

Before running a scan or playbook, define the authorized target and boundaries for the engagement. The walkthrough uses a scope.yaml file to specify its target. Verify that the address and permitted testing activities match your lab or written authorization, and stop if the target is outside that scope. Setup varies by platform and workflow
The Hackers Arise example uses Kali Linux, Go, a repository clone, setup and diagnostic scripts, an OpenRouter API key, and explicit target configuration. That is one demonstrated route, not the only supported installation. Project documentation also describes standalone CLI, Docker, and MCP installation options. Check the current instructions for your chosen platform and workflow rather than treating the Kali sequence as universal. Cybermes project documentation

- MULTIPLE WAYS TO WIN: The Conspiracy wins by pulling off the murder Plot at a specific location or secretly sabotaging and setting off traps. The Friends win by disarming all the traps, or if that fails, solving the WHO, WHERE, and WHAT of the secret Plot
The project’s Windows installation guidance suggests a Windows Defender exclusion as troubleshooting advice for cases where security-research binaries or payloads are blocked. An exclusion reduces protection for the specified files or location. Do not add one automatically: understand what will be excluded, verify the software and files you trust, and follow your organization’s security policy. Cybermes Windows installation guide

Both the project documentation and the walkthrough emphasize evidence organization and structured reporting. The maintainers list Markdown, JSON, HTML, and PDF as report formats; Co11ateral praises the structure of the reports produced in the example. A generated report can help organize observations and proof-of-concept material, but it does not establish that a finding is valid, complete, or safe to exploit. Review the evidence, reproduce findings within scope, and distinguish confirmed issues from tool-generated leads before sharing a report.

Version status and what the evidence supports
The official release page listed Cybermes v3.5.0 as its latest release when checked on October 7, 2026; that release is dated September 16, 2026, and its notes describe MCP security hardening, diagnostic tools, and performance work. Release status can change, so check the official release page for the version and installation guidance current when you set up the tool.
The walkthrough is a useful example of how its author used Cybermes in a local lab, but the reported BOLA result and workflow timing remain that author’s account. The available material does not independently verify the result, establish a benchmark, or show that the framework detects every issue. The project’s playbook count and capabilities are maintainer-described features, not an audited measure of security effectiveness.
For further learning, the walkthrough’s publisher promotes its AI for Cybersecurity training and describes local-model setup and lab work. The article establishes that the publisher promotes the course, but does not establish its current availability or partnership terms. Course mention in the walkthrough
