Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor most compact desks, multi-monitor setups, and work that depends on straight lines, a flat 27-inch monitor is the easier choice. A curved model can be more appealing if you sit centered and want a more enveloping view in racing, flight, or open-world games. Neither shape is inherently faster for gaming: choose for your desk and seating position, then compare the monitors’ actual specifications.
Which shape suits your desk and setup?
Start with the space between your eyes and the screen, the depth of the desk, and whether the monitor will sit alone or alongside others. LG’s comparison describes flat monitors as easier to place in compact spaces and conventional multi-monitor layouts, while curved models may need more desk depth and offer less mounting flexibility. Those are general trade-offs, not a substitute for checking the dimensions of a particular monitor and stand.

- Small or shallow desk: Lean flat for more predictable placement, but check the stand’s footprint and your comfortable viewing distance.
- Two or more displays: Flat screens are generally easier to align, mix in portrait and landscape orientations, and arrange modularly.
- One centered screen: Consider curved if you prefer the sense of the image wrapping around you; make sure your chair and screen position keep you centered.
LG’s overview explains the practical distinction in its comparison of curved and flat monitor setups. Because desk depth and stand dimensions differ by model, check the manufacturer’s measurements before buying.
Does curved or flat perform better for gaming?
Screen shape is a preference and placement choice, not a performance tier. A curve may feel more immersive in racing, flight simulation, or open-world games, particularly when you sit directly in front of the screen. That subjective effect does not establish faster play or better results. Flat geometry may feel more natural to players who prefer a uniform, straight-edged view, and can also suit precision-oriented work such as CAD, architecture, or print layout.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Competitive shooters and aiming
For a competitive shooter, compare refresh rate, response behavior, resolution, adaptive sync, and the monitor’s measured performance where reliable testing is available. A 2023 preprint, Toward Understanding Display Size for FPS Esports Aiming, reports two experiments and a small statistically significant improvement associated with a larger display in one comparison. The authors suggest display size, resolution, and natural viewing distance likely contributed. It did not compare curved and flat screens, so it cannot show that either shape improves aim.
Eye comfort
Neither shape is a guaranteed answer for eye comfort. LG notes that comfort depends on viewing distance and personal preference as well as screen shape. Set the display at a comfortable distance and position, and judge the particular monitor in your own setup rather than assuming a curve prevents eye strain.

- Quality Visuals: The KG271U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provide the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 180Hz: The 180Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 180Hz, Acer Gaming Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be all rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG271U Gaming Monitor.
- New Depths of Color Accuracy: is monitor is ideal for color-critical projects producing accurate colors, supporting DCI-P3 95%. An amazing monitor for graphic designers, photographers, and film editors.
What does 1500R mean on a 27-inch monitor?
The “R” value describes the nominal radius of the curve in millimeters: a lower number means a tighter curve. It does not, by itself, tell you whether a monitor will suit your desk. Screen width, seating position, desk depth, and personal preference all matter, and the sources cited here do not establish one ideal radius for every 27-inch setup.
For examples of how the rating appears in product specifications, MSI lists its 27-inch MAG 274CQF as 1500R, and ASUS lists the 27-inch VA27VQSE as 1500R. These are examples, not evidence that 1500R is the best curve for every viewer.

Compare the whole monitor, not just its shape
Two curved 27-inch monitors can differ substantially in their gaming specifications. MSI’s US store lists the MAG 274CQF as QHD (2560 × 1440), Rapid VA, 180 Hz, with Adaptive Sync and tilt adjustment. ASUS lists the VA27VQSE as Full HD, up to 75 Hz, with Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync, VESA wall mounting, and tilt, swivel, and height adjustment. These manufacturer listings illustrate why “curved” alone says little about capability; they are not a head-to-head test.
| Specification | MSI MAG 274CQF | ASUS VA27VQSE |
|---|---|---|
| Screen and curve | 27-inch, 1500R (MSI US Store) | 27-inch, 1500R (ASUS USA) |
| Resolution and panel | QHD (2560 × 1440), Rapid VA (MSI US Store) | Full HD; panel type not stated in the cited ASUS listing |
| Refresh rate | 180 Hz (MSI US Store) | Up to 75 Hz (ASUS USA) |
| Adaptive sync | Adaptive Sync (MSI US Store) | Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync (ASUS USA) |
| Listed stand or mounting details | Tilt adjustment (MSI US Store) | Tilt, swivel, height adjustment; VESA wall mountable (ASUS USA) |
See the manufacturers’ current pages for the MSI MAG 274CQF and ASUS VA27VQSE. When comparing a curved monitor with a flat one, aim for similar resolution, panel technology, refresh rate, and price; otherwise, differences in those factors can overwhelm any effect of shape.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
A Samsung executive described the curve on the specific 2014 S27D590C as providing “nearly uniform viewing distances from the center of the screen to its edges.” That is an attributed statement about one product, not an independent finding or a universal conclusion about curved monitors. The statement appeared in Samsung’s 2014 product announcement.

The record does not establish, on its own, an ideal curve for every desk or gaming use. More broadly, the evidence cited here does not provide a controlled modern comparison of otherwise matched 27-inch curved and flat gaming monitors, or a current matched-price comparison. Claims that one shape is objectively faster, universally more comfortable, or best for everyone go beyond what these sources establish.
