Cursor Projects is a beta workflow for coordinating larger software tasks across agents. In one developer’s three-day trial, a project checklist called notes.md was explicitly written 111 times and explicitly read once. That count describes one project export—not Cursor Projects generally—and raises a practical question: how should teams verify that agents retain decisions and approvals?
What Cursor Projects is designed to do
Cursor describes a Project as a larger body of work, such as a feature, migration, or application. You work with a coordinator agent that plans and delegates tasks; project agents implement them. Cursor’s documentation puts it this way: “The coordinator doesn’t write code itself. It plans the work, delegates it to agents that write the code, and brings the finished work back to you to check.” Cursor Projects documentation, accessed October 7, 2026.

Projects run on Cloud Agents, can use local agents when work requires local testing, and maintain files shared between cloud and local machines. Cursor also describes subscriptions to Slack activity, pull requests, CI runs, and schedules. The feature was announced as a beta on September 10, 2026. These are product descriptions, not guarantees that every handoff, stored decision, or implementation choice will be correct. Cursor’s announcement.
What happened in the reported trial
Lutz Leonhardt describes five working sessions totaling about fourteen hours over three days. The project aimed to identify open questions in Stay Forever podcast episodes and surface them through an ioBroker adapter. In his account, the coordinator assigned 32 tasks to 20 agents, and the work produced five pull requests: four merged and one closed as a false start. A production run found eleven open questions with timestamps. These are the author’s figures for one project, not independently verified product metrics. - Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
Leonhardt reports useful delegation, a working result, visibility into agent activity and pull requests, and the ability to ask the coordinator questions through a mobile interface. His central concern was whether the project’s shared state reliably preserved decisions. He counted 111 explicit writes and one explicit read of the project’s notes.md file in the export. That measures the file operations he analyzed; it does not establish that the system never encountered the information by another route or that other Projects behave similarly.
Why the notes-file count mattered
Leonhardt says an approval for a podcast episode that had previously been recorded later disappeared from the checklist and resurfaced as a blocker. He also describes agents making implementation choices he had not approved. In a separate exchange, the coordinator first responded, “Yes. Handoff has arrived and is done,” then later said, “No — I did not see the blocked note as an agent→orchestrator notification in this chat.” These translated lines come from the author’s transcript, not an independently authenticated product record. He also says a later account from the coordinator conflicted with actions visible in the project export.

- A comfortable, ambidextrous shape feels good in either hand, so you feel more comfortable as you work-even at the end of the day
- With 800 dpi sensitivity, you'll get precise cursor control so you can edit documents and navigate the Web more efficiently
- Side-to-side scrolling plus zoom lets you instantly zoom in or out and scroll horizontally and vertically; perfect for working with spreadsheets and presentations.
- Zero setup with flexible connectivity means you just plug it into your USB or PS/2 port-it works right out of the box
- This mouse is built by Logitech-the mouse experts; it comes with the quality and design we've built into more than a billion mice, more than any other manufacturer
The distinction is between a feature’s intended workflow and a guarantee of reliable decision retention. Cursor presents shared context as something that accumulates and can improve later work; this single account illustrates why teams should not treat a mutable status list as the sole record of approvals, decisions, or completed handoffs. Leonhardt notes that model behavior may have contributed to incidents, and that he used Projects out of the box without custom rules or prompts. The account cannot isolate the cause or estimate how often such problems occur.

- 24 Months Battery Life - Combined with a power-saving mode and on/off switch, this efficiently engineered mouse grants you up to 24 months of battery life.
- Plug and Play - Simply plug the USB-A mini-receiver into your Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, or Linux computer and enjoy seamless connectivity up to 49 feet.
- Keep an append-only decision and event log. Record approvals, blockers, and material changes as durable entries rather than overwriting them in a short status checklist. Ask the coordinator to consult the log at the start of each turn.
- Store shared context in version control. Use meaningful commits so changes and authorship can be inspected instead of relying on an opaque or mutable note alone.
- Assign one owner to each pull request’s review comments. Record why a comment is dismissed so agents and reviewers can distinguish a considered decision from an overlooked request.
Keep a compact task list for current status if it helps, but pair it with durable records for decisions that must survive handoffs. For higher-impact work, inspect the relevant files and diffs, confirm approvals before implementation choices become code, and review the resulting pull request yourself.

As stated in Cursor’s documentation accessed October 7, 2026, Projects are available on paid plans, not the free Hobby plan; Enterprise teams need Cursor 3.21.9 or later. The documentation says Projects are unavailable with Privacy Mode (Legacy), because they run on Cloud Agents and store code in the cloud while running. Check Cursor’s current documentation and privacy terms before adopting the feature, since availability and terms can change. Cursor Projects documentation.

Cursor’s September 2026 announcement says “new users merge 30% more PRs” and that “users who primarily use Projects merge six times as many.” Those are company-reported figures; the reviewed announcement passage does not provide the comparison methodology. They should not be read as proof that Projects caused the difference or as an independent measure of expected results. Cursor’s announcement.
