Use an exact Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition release with its matching Minecraft and Forge versions. For a new installation, the current 1.20.1 release listed by CurseForge is 1.20.1-0.5.5, dated August 4, 2024, and Modpacks.ch identifies it as using Forge 47.2.20. Install the same pack version and loader on every client and on the dedicated server.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
Do not turn a normal client instance into a server by uploading its folder. Obtain the matching dedicated-server package, read the ZIP’s root README.md, and begin with about 8 GB of server RAM for a small installation. Published guidance ranges from 6–8 GB on the player side to an 8 GB hosted plan; those are vendor recommendations, not an official CuboidDroid minimum or a guaranteed player-capacity figure.

Which Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition version should you install?
Pick one release before downloading anything. The pack has releases for both Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.16.5, and those branches are not interchangeable. A 1.20.1 client cannot safely connect to a 1.16.5 server, even when both are called Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition.
| Pack release | Minecraft | Forge loader | Server-file information | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.20.1-0.5.5 | 1.20.1 | 47.2.20 | Use the dedicated-server package that matches this release; do not substitute a client folder. | Recommended starting point for a new server; listed as the latest 1.20.1 release on August 4, 2024. |
| 1.0.8 server files | 1.16.5 | 36.2.26 | Cuboid-Outpost-LE-1.0.8-Server-Files.zip is listed on the older CurseForge server-file page. |
For an existing 1.16.5 community or a world that must remain on that branch. |
These are separate installations. Keep the selected Minecraft version, Forge build, modpack release, and server files together in your notes so an update does not accidentally mix branches.

What you need before setup
A fixed version decision
Record the complete release string, Minecraft version, and Forge build. For the current branch that means 1.20.1-0.5.5 / Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge 47.2.20. If you are maintaining the older branch, record 1.0.8 / Minecraft 1.16.5 / Forge 36.2.26.
Matching client and server files
Every player needs the same modpack release and loader as the server. A launcher may install a client instance, but that instance is not automatically a valid dedicated-server installation. Download a server package specifically intended for the selected release, or use a host installer that supplies the matching files.

Hosterfy’s current guide advises allocating at least 6–8 GB on the player side and recommends an 8 GB dedicated-RAM plan. WinterNode also recommends 8 GB for its hosted Cuboid Outpost instance. Treat those figures as starting guidance: actual performance changes with player count, view distance, world generation, other services on the machine, and the host’s CPU and storage.
A place for the server README
Keep the downloaded ZIP unchanged until you have opened its root README.md. The supplied instruction says: “Please ensure that you read the README.md file in the ZIP root for information on how to set up and configure your server for your particular needs.” That document is the authoritative starting point for the package’s scripts, settings, and any release-specific requirements.

Install the client instance first
Installing one client successfully gives you a known-good copy for testing. Hosterfy documents a launcher-based route using compatible launchers such as CurseForge, Modrinth, or Prism.
- Open your chosen launcher and select the exact Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition release. Do not select “latest” if it silently chooses another Minecraft branch.
- Verify the displayed Minecraft version and Forge loader. For release 1.20.1-0.5.5, they should be Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.2.20.
- Install the instance in a dedicated profile rather than merging its mods into another pack. Separate profiles make it possible to test the server without changing unrelated worlds.
- Start the instance once and allow the launcher to finish downloading files. Stop at the title screen, then close the game normally so the profile is written completely.
- Open the instance’s version or mod list and check that it still reports the selected pack release. If the launcher has changed versions, reinstall or edit the profile before setting up the server.
- Repeat the same selection for each player. Do not distribute a modified profile and then troubleshoot the server until the unmodified, matching profile works locally.
Set up a self-hosted dedicated server
The exact startup files differ by release, so use the files and directions shipped with the selected server package rather than copying a generic Forge server tutorial.
1. Download the correct server package
For a 1.20.1 server, obtain server files built for Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition 1.20.1-0.5.5 and Forge 47.2.20. For a legacy 1.16.5 server, the listed package is Cuboid-Outpost-LE-1.0.8-Server-Files.zip, paired with Forge 36.2.26. Never use the 1.16.5 ZIP for a 1.20.1 world or the reverse.
2. Extract to a clean server directory
Create a new directory used only by this server and extract the ZIP there. Do not extract over an existing world or another modpack. A clean directory makes it easier to identify missing files and to restore a backup.

3. Read the root README before editing settings
Open README.md at the ZIP root and follow its release-specific order. Look for the supplied launch script, required installation step, configuration notes, Java/runtime requirement, and any first-start instructions. If the README conflicts with a generic guide, follow the README for this package.
4. Run the supplied first-start process
Use the included start script or the command documented by the package. The first launch may create configuration files, a server agreement file, logs, and the world directory. Stop the process only after it has completed the initialization described in the README.
5. Set memory in the documented startup configuration
Apply the memory values through the package’s supplied script or host panel, not by creating a second, competing startup command. Begin around 8 GB for the server. Leave enough RAM for the operating system and other services; assigning every available gigabyte can make the machine less stable rather than faster.
6. Make only deliberate configuration changes
Change one setting at a time, restart, and record the result. Keep the original ZIP and a copy of the initial configuration so you can roll back a change. World-generation and view-distance settings can increase CPU, storage, and memory pressure, so adjust them only after the unmodified server starts reliably.

7. Test locally before inviting players
Connect with the client profile that exactly matches the server. Confirm that the world loads, the expected mods appear, and the server remains running after a restart. Only then give connection details to other players.

How much RAM does the pack need?
No official CuboidDroid minimum or guaranteed player-capacity specification is stated in the available release information. The practical starting points published by hosting providers are:
| Where the memory is allocated | Published guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Client instance | 6–8 GB, according to Hosterfy’s current guide | A launcher allocation recommendation, not a promise that every computer or player count will perform identically. |
| Hosted server | 8 GB recommended by Hosterfy and WinterNode | A sensible starting plan for a small server; real capacity depends on CPU, storage, view distance, world generation, and concurrent players. |
Signs that memory is not the only problem
- The server repeatedly stops during world generation: check the startup log and CPU/storage load as well as the assigned heap.
- Players experience slow chunk loading after increasing view distance: lower the distance before adding more memory.
- The operating system becomes unresponsive: reduce the server allocation so the host has free memory.
- One player works but another receives a mod-list error: verify release and Forge matching before changing RAM.
Increase allocation in measured steps and observe the log after each restart. More memory cannot correct an incompatible modpack, an incorrect Forge build, or a client directory uploaded as a server.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use a managed host instead of self-hosting
A managed host can remove most file-transfer and startup-script work, but you still need to choose the correct pack release and ensure that every client matches it. Provider features and pricing change, so verify the current offer and available version immediately before ordering.

Questions to ask a host
- Can you install the exact release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader I need?
- Is the advertised RAM dedicated to the server, and how much is available after the control panel and other services?
- Can I upload a matching server ZIP, replace configuration files, and restore a world backup?
- How often are backups made, how long are they retained, and can I download one?
- Where is the server located, and what support is provided for modpack startup errors?
Do not choose solely by a one-click badge. A convenient installer is useful only if it supplies the version and file access your world requires.

Verify the installation before troubleshooting gameplay
Use this order when a player cannot join or the server behaves unexpectedly:
- Compare the Minecraft version on the client and server.
- Compare the Forge loader build. For the current 1.20.1-0.5.5 branch, check for Forge 47.2.20; for the listed 1.16.5 server package, check for Forge 36.2.26.
- Compare the complete Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition release string.
- Confirm that the server was created from dedicated-server files, not copied from a client profile.
- Read the server log for the first error, then consult the ZIP-root README for that release.
- Only after those checks, investigate network access, firewall rules, world settings, or performance.
Common symptoms and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| “Incompatible version” or Forge mismatch | Client and server use different Minecraft, Forge, or pack releases. | Install the exact server release on the client and restart both sides. |
| Server stops immediately after launch | Incomplete extraction, an incorrect startup process, or a requirement documented in the README was skipped. | Re-extract into a clean directory and repeat the README’s first-start procedure. |
| Missing mods or client-only files on the server | A normal client folder was uploaded. | Replace it with the matching dedicated-server package. |
| World loads but performance degrades with more players | Memory, CPU, storage, view distance, or world generation pressure. | Check logs and host metrics, lower view distance, and then reassess allocation and hardware. |
| Players cannot connect while the server is running | Connection details, firewall, host networking, or a provider-side setting. | Test from the host’s supported connection method and ask the provider to verify network exposure; do not reinstall the pack until version matching is confirmed. |
Updating without breaking the world
Make a backup of the world, configuration, and server files before changing the pack or loader. Keep the old installation intact so you can return to it if the new release fails.
- Write down the current release, Minecraft version, Forge build, memory setting, and configuration changes.
- Read the new release’s README and note migration instructions.
- Copy the world and configuration to a separate backup location.
- Install the new release in a separate directory or host instance rather than overwriting the working server.
- Test with one matching client before allowing the wider group to update.
- Move the live world only after startup, login, and a save-and-restart cycle succeed.
Players should update their launcher profiles at the same time as the server. Keeping one player on the old pack while the server has moved to a new release is a compatibility problem, not a gameplay setting.
Recommended setup decision
For a new community, use Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition 1.20.1-0.5.5 with Forge 47.2.20, install the matching client profile, and deploy the corresponding dedicated-server package. Start with approximately 8 GB of server RAM, validate the unmodified package, and tune view distance or memory only after checking logs and host resources. Choose the 1.16.5 package only when compatibility with an existing world or player group requires it.
