Galaxy Research counted $5.683 billion invested across 384 crypto and blockchain company deals—up 31% in capital from Q1—while reported valuations continued to retreat from their Q4 2025 peak. The rebound was concentrated in later-stage rounds and a handful of sectors, and Galaxy had valuation data for only 16% of Q2 deals.
What the Q2 funding rebound does—and does not—show
Galaxy Research’s report, dated September 16, 2026, recorded $5.683 billion across 384 crypto and blockchain company deals in Q2 2026. Capital rose 31% quarter over quarter, while deal count increased 10%. Galaxy says the increase was driven primarily by a rise in later-stage financing. The figures show more money deployed, not a broad-based recovery in company pricing or investor appetite at every stage. Galaxy Research’s Q2 2026 report

The distinction matters because a small number of large rounds can lift a quarterly dollar total without a comparable rise in deal activity. In Q2, later-stage companies received about 78% of invested capital. By contrast, younger companies received roughly 22%. The total therefore reflects a market in which substantial checks to mature businesses carried much of the weight.

Galaxy counted $10.018 billion across 744 deals in the first half of 2026. Annualizing that six-month figure gives an illustrative pace of about $20.037 billion—not a forecast—slightly below Galaxy’s reported $20.3 billion for all of 2025. The comparison suggests capital deployment was near the prior year’s level, but it says nothing by itself about valuation recovery.

Funding dollars rose as reported valuations cooled
Deal size and valuation measure different things. Galaxy reported a Q2 median deal size of about $4.9 million, a high for its series, even as crypto company valuations fell sharply from their Q4 2025 peak. A larger check can reflect a financing need or a larger round; it does not establish that investors assigned the company a higher pre-money valuation.
The contrast follows a sharp run-up and pullback in Galaxy’s reported results. In Q4 2025, Galaxy recorded $8.5 billion across 425 deals; 11 rounds above $100 million accounted for 85% of quarterly capital. The quarter’s median pre-money valuation was $70 million, and its median deal size was $4 million. In Q1 2026, investment fell to about $4 billion across 355 deals, with Galaxy linking much of the decline to fewer very large later-stage rounds. Q2 capital then rose to $5.683 billion across 384 deals, while reported valuations remained well below the Q4 peak. Galaxy Research’s Q4 2025 report Galaxy Research’s Q1 2026 report

Galaxy describes broader venture-capital valuations as having declined only slightly over Q1 and Q2, compared with the sharper decline in its crypto valuation data. That supports a directional conclusion: crypto valuations cooled more from their late-2025 highs than the broader venture market did over the same period. It does not establish a precise crypto valuation premium, because the cited material does not provide a matched current multiple or enough detail to calculate one. PitchBook’s annual 2025 U.S. venture valuation report is limited to U.S. data as of December 31, 2025, so it is not a like-for-like global benchmark for Galaxy’s crypto series. Valuation coverage is too limited for a market-wide verdict
Galaxy had valuation data for just 16% of Q2 deals, and the observed rounds skewed heavily toward later stages. Its Q1 report said it had valuations for 12% of that quarter’s deals. These samples can indicate how reported valuations moved among the deals with available data, but they do not describe the pricing of every crypto startup or every stage of the market.

That limitation is particularly important when comparing a reported valuation trend with the headline funding total. The funding figures count deals and dollars across a much broader set than the subset with valuation observations. Readers should not interpret the reported decline as a complete census of private-company pricing, nor assume that the median check size represents a median valuation.
Where Q2 capital went
Galaxy’s Q2 figures show concentration by company sector and headquarters as well as by stage. Trading, exchange, investing, and lending businesses attracted about $3.523 billion—roughly three-fifths of the quarter’s investment. That category also led by deal count, with 51 deals, but activity was more distributed than capital: Payments/Rewards and DeFi each recorded 40 deals, while Web3/NFT/DAO/Metaverse/Gaming recorded 37.

| Q2 2026 measure | Galaxy Research figure | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| Later-stage share of invested capital | About 78% | Most dollars went to later-stage companies. |
| Trading/Exchange/Investing/Lending capital | About $3.523 billion, roughly three-fifths of the total | One sector grouping dominated funding by dollars. |
| U.S.-headquartered companies’ share of capital | 73.5% | Funding dollars were concentrated in U.S.-headquartered firms. |
| U.S.-headquartered companies’ share of deal count | 39.1% | The U.S. share of dollars was much larger than its share of deals. |
These figures explain why a large quarterly total should not be read as an even recovery across crypto startups. Capital allocation was strongly tilted toward later-stage businesses, a leading sector grouping, and U.S.-headquartered companies. Galaxy’s Q1 report offers a related warning about volatility: Q1 had about half Q4’s invested capital but 16% fewer deals, which it attributed chiefly to the absence of Q4’s very large later-stage rounds. Company investment is not venture-fund fundraising
Galaxy also reported about $3.9 billion allocated to five new crypto venture funds in Q2 2026, the fewest new funds raised in a quarter since Q4 2019. This is a separate measure from investment into startup rounds: fund formation tracks capital raised by venture managers, while company-financing totals track money deployed into businesses. In Q1, Galaxy reported roughly $1.1 billion for eight new funds and described new-fund fundraising as difficult. A large amount raised by a few funds can coexist with a low fund count and concentrated company investment. Galaxy Research’s Q2 2026 report Galaxy Research’s Q1 2026 report

Why H1 totals differ across trackers
Not every market tracker reports the same funding total. Galaxy Research counted $10.018 billion across 744 crypto and blockchain company deals in H1 2026. Tiger Research and RootData reported $13.3 billion of investment inflows across 435 rounds for the same half-year, drawing on a database of 9,416 deals from 2018 through H1 2026. The two publishers describe different datasets and do not reconcile their coverage, classifications, or collection methods in the cited material. Keep the totals separate rather than averaging them or treating either as a correction of the other. Galaxy Research’s H1 2026 figures Tiger Research and RootData’s H1 2026 report
