Crypto Presales FAQ: Vesting, Claim Dates, and Token Unlocks

Presale claim dates and vesting schedules vary by project, sale round, and allocation. Learn what cliffs and unlocks mean and what to verify before claiming.

There is no universal presale claim date or standard vesting formula. The schedule depends on the token project, sale round, allocation category, and governing contract or terms. Check the current official instructions for your specific allocation before expecting tokens to be available or trying to claim them.

When can I claim presale tokens?

Only the sale’s current terms and claim instructions can establish the date for a particular allocation. Do not assume that claims open at the token generation event (TGE): a schedule may provide no tokens at TGE, impose a cliff, or release tokens in later increments. The meaning of TGE and its relationship to a claim schedule should be defined in the project’s own documents.

For a named presale, verify the token and sale round, your allocation category, the schedule’s start event or timestamp, the cliff, the release formula and cadence, and the amount covered. Then check the project’s official claim instructions for your wallet and allocation. Without those specifics, the exact claim date cannot be determined.

What do vesting, a cliff, and an unlock mean?

  • Vesting is the schedule or set of conditions under which an allocation becomes available over time. OpenZeppelin’s VestingWallet documentation describes a customizable release schedule, with a linear curve in its default implementation.
  • Cliff is the earliest time any amount can vest. Frontier’s vesting documentation explains that nothing is releasable before the cliff.
  • Cadence or slice period is how often increments become available. Frontier describes a slice-based schedule that rounds releases down to the nearest slice, so availability may not increase continuously.
  • Unlock means some tokens have become available under the project’s rules. It does not necessarily mean they have already arrived in your wallet.
  • Claim or release may mean a user action or contract operation that transfers eligible tokens. OpenZeppelin documents a release operation for amounts that have vested; other implementations may work differently.

Does an unlock automatically put tokens in my wallet?

Not necessarily. Eligibility to release tokens and transferring them to a wallet can be separate steps. The contract and interface determine whether tokens arrive automatically or whether you must connect your wallet and submit a claim or release transaction. Check the project’s official instructions to determine whether a transaction is required, whether a fee applies, and whether there is a deadline or other condition. The available documentation establishes no universal rule for fees, deadlines, or the consequences of a missed claim.

Can different buyers in the same project have different schedules?

Yes. A project may set separate terms for seed, private-sale, treasury, reserve, or other allocation categories. These disclosed examples show why a schedule must be tied to the relevant category and date:

Project and allocation Disclosed schedule or supply detail Source context
Injective seed-sale participants No tokens at TGE, followed by a seven-month cliff and 33.3% unlocks every six months. Canary Capital Group LLC’s 2026 SEC-filed registration statement; the filing says the full 100 million INJ genesis supply was fully unlocked by January 2024. This is a historical schedule, not a current supply figure.
Injective private-sale participants Eight-month cliff, followed by 33.3% unlocks every six months. Canary Capital Group LLC’s 2026 SEC-filed registration statement; historical terms.
SUI Genesis SUI Tokens The filing reports 10 billion Genesis SUI Tokens at genesis, 3,736 million circulating supply as of December 15, 2025, and current distribution schedules expected to conclude between 2027 and 2030. 2026 SEC filing; supply and schedule figures are stated as of December 2025 and should not be read as 2026 circulating supply.
Forcefi treasury/reserve allocation Five-month cliff and 24-month vesting; claims are described as available through project contracts following TGE. Forcefi sale-terms page, undated and accessed October 4, 2026. Project-specific terms.

These examples describe particular projects, categories, and disclosure dates; they are not typical presale terms. The SEC filings are disclosures, not investment approval, a performance guarantee, or universal legal rules. An unlock percentage alone also does not establish a market effect.

How do I check whether a presale schedule is credible and relevant to me?

  1. Match the terms to your allocation. Confirm the exact token, sale round, and allocation category rather than relying on a schedule quoted without context.
  2. Read the full timing formula. Identify the start event or timestamp, cliff, vesting duration, first release, cadence or formula, and total allocation subject to vesting. A percentage without its interval and category is incomplete.
  3. Find the governing source. Determine whether the schedule appears in sale terms, is enforced by a smart contract, or is administered by another authority. SEC-filed industry guidance discusses vesting and lock-up disclosures and whether information is reasonably available; the SEC Crypto Task Force response also identifies distribution schedules and release mechanics as offering details. Those materials do not establish the terms of an individual presale.
  4. Check the implementation without assuming it is verified. Find the official contract address and determine whether the contract or source code corresponds to the stated terms. A project’s claim page or marketing statement alone does not show that an on-chain implementation has been independently verified.
  5. Read the claim mechanics. Establish whether tokens are released automatically or require an interface transaction, and look for fees, deadlines, and other conditions in the current official instructions.
  6. Put the unlock in supply context. Compare total and circulating supply, category allocations, future issuance or burns, and other unlocks around the same date. A vesting schedule by itself does not describe the full token supply.

For disclosure context, see the SEC Crypto Task Force response and the SEC-filed industry guidelines. These are not endorsements of any token or sale.

What if I cannot find a claim date or miss a claim?

Do not infer a date, fee, deadline, remaining balance, or forfeiture rule from the word “presale.” If a project does not state the relevant detail for your allocation, the answer is not established by general vesting conventions. Use the project’s current official terms and support channels; do not treat an unofficial countdown or third-party summary as the governing schedule.
