Cross-platform mobile development lets a team reuse code across platforms such as Android and iOS. It does not mean every part of the app must be shared or that the app will behave identically on every device. Choose an approach based on your team’s skills, whether you want shared UI, the platforms and device features you need, and how much native integration the product will require.
What cross-platform mobile development means
Cross-platform development is the practice of sharing some or all of an application’s code across multiple target platforms. Teams choose the boundary: they might share the interface and application logic, or share business and data logic while keeping the user interface native to each platform.
Kotlin Multiplatform’s documentation describes the approach as writing code once and sharing it across targets, while emphasizing that teams decide what and how much to share. That flexibility is important: shared code does not eliminate platform-specific implementation, testing, or release work.
How the main approaches differ
The frameworks differ most in language, UI ownership, rendering, and the route to platform APIs. The descriptions below reflect their official documentation and framework-maintained overviews, not an independent performance ranking.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| Approach | Language and UI model | Targets and platform integration | Good fit to investigate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flutter | Dart toolkit with a layered framework and engine; Flutter controls the rendering path for its UI. | Builds for multiple platforms. Plugins and platform channels let Dart communicate with host code such as Kotlin or Swift; native controls can also be embedded or Flutter added to an existing app. | Teams seeking a shared UI and willing to work in Dart and Flutter’s rendering model. |
| React Native | JavaScript and React; renders native UI components while application logic runs through a JavaScript runtime. | Platform-specific integration may be needed for device and OS features. The overview cited here is maintained by Kotlin and is a high-level description, not a neutral benchmark. | Teams with JavaScript and React experience that want an approach based on native UI components. |
| Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) | Kotlin code can be shared selectively; the approach does not require a shared UI. | Teams can share business logic, database and network code, and tests while retaining native app code or adding platform-specific implementations. | Teams that want to reuse logic but preserve native UI or choose sharing incrementally. |
| .NET MAUI | C# and .NET cross-platform UI toolkit. | Microsoft lists Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Tizen as targets. Its documentation covers platform customization, device features, lifecycle, installation, and deployment. | Teams already invested in C#/.NET that need a mobile-and-desktop toolkit. |
| Ionic | Web-technology hybrid approach using a WebView. | Device features are accessed through plugins or native bridges; validate support for the particular APIs and user experience your app requires. | Teams with strong web skills whose requirements fit a WebView-based application. |
How to choose a framework
Kotlin Multiplatform’s FAQ puts the selection principle plainly: choose based on “your team’s skills, project requirements, and long-term product goals.” Use that as a starting point, then make the decision concrete:
- List the targets. Identify the required operating systems and whether the project also needs web or desktop builds. Check that the framework supports the platforms you actually plan to ship.
- Inventory platform-dependent features. List features involving permissions, sensors, notifications, background work, authentication, or other OS/device APIs. Confirm the framework’s supported route for each requirement: a maintained plugin, a bridge, or custom native code.
- Choose the UI ownership model. Decide whether consistent shared UI is a goal, or whether platform teams should retain control of native interfaces. Shared business logic does not require shared UI.
- Match the team’s real skills. Consider the languages and mobile tooling the team can maintain—not only what developers know today, but what the product will require them to learn and support.
- Prototype the riskiest integration. Before committing, build a small proof of concept for the hardest platform-specific feature. Verify the library’s platform coverage and behavior on the devices and OS versions that matter to your product.
- Account for ongoing ownership. Check who will maintain plugins, platform-specific code, build configuration, and releases as frameworks and operating systems change.
Official framework pages explain capabilities and integration paths, but the documentation reviewed does not provide a uniform independent scorecard for cost, delivery speed, or runtime performance. Treat benefit statements and company case studies as claims from their named publishers, not guarantees that every project will see the same result.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Platform integration is still engineering work
A shared codebase does not remove the need to handle differences between operating systems. Flutter provides plugins and platform channels for host-language code, and KMP allows native implementations where a platform-specific requirement calls for one. Other approaches likewise depend on their own plugin, bridge, and customization paths.
Check integration at the feature level rather than assuming a framework’s general compatibility means every API is covered. A plugin may not cover the needed platform, behavior, or lifecycle case; budget for a native implementation and test plan when it does not. Flutter’s platform setup guidance also notes that target environments can need additional setup: its documentation says iOS development requires macOS.

What the evidence does—and does not—show
Kotlin Multiplatform’s 2026 Duolingo case study reports more than 40 million daily active users in 176 countries and weekly Android and iOS updates, and says KMP is increasingly helping the team deliver features faster. Those are figures and claims presented by the documentation’s case study; they are not independently audited metrics or proof that KMP caused the user scale or release cadence.
The official documentation available for these frameworks does not establish a directly comparable independent winner for performance, project cost, or time to delivery. Those outcomes depend on the product, implementation, team, and integrations, so a small prototype against your own requirements is more useful than a universal ranking.
