What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use the same Create 2 Mekanism: Sky Edition 2 release, Minecraft version, and Forge loader on the server and every client. For the documented 0.9.9 release, that combination is Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.3.10. A managed host can install the pack from its control panel; a manual server requires you to verify the release files, install the matching Forge server, and copy only the files the pack supports.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Create 2 Mekanism: Sky Edition 2 is
Create 2 Mekanism: Sky Edition 2 is a progression-focused technical skyblock pack. Its systems combine Create automation, Applied Energistics 2 storage and logistics, Industrial Foregoing processing, Mekanism machinery, and Ad Astra’s space-oriented progression. Quests guide the sequence from early automation to larger factories and off-world content; BoxToPlay describes the pack as having more than 300 quests.

A server has to preserve that progression state for everyone. The world, quest data, claimed chunks, machine networks, inventories, and player data live on the server, while each player’s client supplies the matching mods, configurations, resource files, and datapacks. A client that is even one release or loader revision away can fail during connection or behave differently after joining.
Use this exact version combination
The clearest release reference is Create 2 Mekanism- Sky Edition 2-0.9.9.zip. Modpacks.ch lists that pack file for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.3.10 and reports 308 mods. GDLauncher also lists Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge for the pack; its listing records an update date of October 2, 2025. Treat those details as the compatibility target for a 0.9.9 server, not as permission to mix files from another release.

The available release reference does not identify a separate, author-provided dedicated-server bundle. Before a manual installation, read the release notes and download area for the exact release. If the author supplies a server pack, prefer it. If no server bundle is supplied, do not assume that uploading an ordinary client instance is safe.
Choose managed hosting or self-hosting
Both approaches can run the pack, but they shift different responsibilities to you. Managed panels are usually the quickest route for a small group; self-hosting gives you direct control over files and hardware.
| Decision point | Managed host | Self-hosted machine or VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Installation effort | Search for the pack in the provider’s installer and deploy it from the panel. | Obtain the correct release, install Forge, assemble the supported server files, accept the EULA, and configure networking. |
| File and configuration control | Panel tools and file managers provide access, but the provider controls the platform. | Full control over mods, configs, scripts, Java process options, and operating-system settings. |
| RAM and CPU headroom | Choose a plan with enough reserved memory and CPU; upgrading is normally a plan change. | You decide the hardware allocation, but you also handle contention, thermal limits, and operating-system overhead. |
| Backups and recovery | Some panels expose scheduled backups and restore points; verify what is included before subscribing. | You must design, test, and store backups separately from the game world. |
| Updates | The panel may offer a pack selector or reinstall workflow, but you still need a world backup and version check. | You control the timing and can stage an update, but every file and rollback step is your responsibility. |
| Player count | Easy to scale by moving to a larger plan. | Limited by your available CPU, memory, upload bandwidth, and ability to keep the machine online. |
| Geographic latency | Select a data center near most players. | Host at a location with good routes to your group or accept the latency from a home connection. |
| Recurring cost | Monthly or prepaid hosting charges. | Existing hardware may avoid a hosting bill, but electricity, bandwidth, storage, and replacement costs remain. |
If your priority is getting a private world online with minimal administration, managed installation is the practical default. If you need unrestricted access to the operating system, custom automation, or your own backup architecture, self-hosting is the better fit.
Install with a managed host
Providers that list the pack generally use the same control-panel pattern. mTxServ describes it as choosing a Minecraft plan, searching for Create 2 Mekanism: Sky Edition 2 in the installer, and clicking install; its documentation says the server is online within minutes. Other providers advertise a similar one-click deployment. The labels differ, but the verification steps below are still important.
- Create the server and select a location. Pick a data center close to the majority of players. Choose a plan whose memory is appropriate for your group rather than accepting the smallest plan by default.
- Open the modpack or game installer. Search for the complete pack name, not just “Mekanism” or “Create.” Confirm that the result identifies Sky Edition 2 and exposes the 0.9.9 release or the release you intend to use.
- Select the loader and Minecraft version. For 0.9.9, choose Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.3.10. If the panel offers only a different combination, stop and resolve the mismatch instead of installing a near match.
- Run the installation. Let the panel download and place the server files. Do not overwrite the generated directory with a client instance while the installer is working.
- Start once and read the console. The first launch can create configuration files and the world. Wait for the panel to report that the server has finished starting; a process that repeatedly exits needs diagnosis before players connect.
- Set access controls. Configure the server address, operator permissions, whitelist, difficulty, and any panel-level firewall rules. Keep operator access limited to trusted administrators.
- Install the matching client pack. Every player should select the same Create 2 Mekanism: Sky Edition 2 release, Minecraft version, and Forge build in their launcher. A one-click server install does not automatically update a player’s client.
- Test with one player first. Join from a client that exactly matches the server, create or load the intended world, and verify that quests, machines, dimensions, and chunk loading behave normally before inviting the whole group.
One-click means automated file deployment, not automatic compatibility with every launcher. Keep the pack version visible in your server notes so a later reinstall does not silently select a different release.

Manual installation when no server bundle is provided
Manual deployment is possible, but the release reference does not establish an author-published server archive. The safe method is therefore conditional: first look for a server-specific download or instructions for the exact release; only then assemble a server from the pack’s documented files.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute1. Prepare a clean server directory
Use a new directory for this instance rather than reusing a different Forge or modpack world. Record the intended release, Minecraft version, Forge version, server address, administrator names, and backup location in a small installation note. Keeping those details together prevents a later “almost matching” reinstall.
2. Verify the release files
Download the 0.9.9 pack archive and inspect its manifest, overrides, mods, configs, and datapacks. Check the author’s release notes for a server bundle, server-only exclusions, or required first-start actions. If the notes provide a dedicated archive, extract that archive into the server directory and follow its included instructions.
3. Install the matching Forge server
Run the Forge installer for Minecraft 1.20.1 and select the server-install option, using Forge 47.3.10 for the documented release. Allow the installer to create its launch files and libraries. Start the generated server launcher once so it can create the EULA file and base directories, then stop it cleanly.
4. Accept the EULA and preserve generated files
Read the EULA file in the server directory and change its setting only if you agree to Mojang’s terms. Keep the Forge-generated libraries, launch scripts, and configuration structure. Do not replace them with files from another Minecraft version.

5. Apply the pack’s supported content
Copy the files the release instructions identify for server use. In a typical pack layout this means the matching mods, configuration files, datapacks, and override content, but the author’s release notes take precedence. Preserve directory names and file paths exactly. Never copy a random client cache, launcher metadata directory, or shader folder merely because it exists in your client instance.
6. Start in a controlled test
Launch the server with the Forge-generated script or launcher, watch the console for missing-mod or dependency errors, and wait for a successful world-ready message. Stop and correct the first reported error rather than ignoring a long cascade of secondary messages.
7. Transfer or create the world
For a new skyblock world, use the pack’s intended world-generation and starting configuration. For an existing world, stop the old server completely, make a full backup, and copy the world directory into the new instance without renaming internal folders. A world created under another pack release may load with missing blocks or broken progression if the versions differ.
8. Expose the server safely
On a home network, forward the configured Minecraft port to the server machine and allow it through the operating-system firewall. Give players the public address only after a local test succeeds. On a VPS, restrict administrative services, keep the system updated, and use a firewall rule that exposes only the game port and the management access you actually need.

How much RAM the server needs
No author-published minimum is established for this pack. Provider guidance is a starting point, and actual use changes with concurrent players, automation, loaded chunks, entity counts, and view distance. Allocate memory to the Java process while leaving enough RAM for the operating system and panel; assigning every available gigabyte can make the machine less stable.
| Source or scenario | Published guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| FadeHost general modded guidance | At least 4 GB for modded servers; heavier packs commonly want 6–8 GB. | Use the lower figure only as a rough floor for a very small, lightly loaded test; this pack is substantial. |
| WinterNode | 8 GB recommended; 6–8 GB described as typical depending on player count and view distance. | A sensible starting band for a small private group, followed by monitoring. |
| DedicatedMinecraft.host, 1–5 players | 6–8 GB. | Appropriate initial allocation for a small group running normal automation. |
| DedicatedMinecraft.host, 5–15 players | 10–12 GB. | Plan additional headroom as more players explore and keep chunks loaded. |
| DedicatedMinecraft.host, 15 or more players | 12–16 GB. | A larger installation also needs stronger CPU capacity and careful view-distance management. |
Use the smallest allocation that remains stable under your real workload, then increase it when logs show memory pressure or players experience long pauses during exploration and factory activity. More RAM cannot compensate for a weak CPU, slow storage, excessive chunk loading, or a poorly configured machine.
What raises memory and CPU demand
- Several players exploring different areas at the same time, which keeps more chunks active.
- Large Create contraptions, Mekanism processing lines, and Industrial Foregoing farms ticking continuously.
- High view distance or simulation distance, especially when many machines and entities remain loaded.
- Mob farms, item piles, dropped blocks, and transport networks that accumulate without maintenance.
- Frequent dimension travel and space-oriented content that expands the loaded world.
How to size a plan without guessing
- Start with the player-count band that matches your expected peak, not your average evening.
- Run the intended view distance and normal automation for at least one busy session.
- Watch the host’s memory graph, CPU usage, tick-time or watchdog warnings, and restart history.
- Increase resources or reduce loaded work when performance degrades; record the change so you can compare sessions.
Make every client match the server
Give players a short written specification: pack release, Minecraft version, Forge version, and the launcher profile name. They should install the pack through a reputable launcher or the author’s distribution method, then verify the profile’s versions before launching.
- A different Minecraft minor release is not an acceptable substitute.
- A different Forge build can produce handshake, dependency, or registry errors even when the pack name looks identical.
- Do not remove “unused” mods to improve performance unless the pack documentation explicitly supports it; recipes, quests, and dependencies may rely on them.
- Keep client-only visual additions separate from the server’s required content, and never upload shaders or unrelated launcher files to the server.
- When a player gets a missing-mod message, compare the server’s mod list with that player’s profile before changing the world.
Backups, updates, and routine administration
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly before taking a full world backup. Include the world directory, server configuration, pack configuration, scripts, permissions, and any custom datapacks. Store at least one copy away from the running machine and periodically perform a test restore on a separate directory.
Stage pack updates
Do not update a live world by replacing files while the server is running. Record the current release, make a backup, duplicate the instance or use a staging directory, install the candidate release there, and test world loading, quests, machines, dimensions, and player login. Keep the original instance untouched until the new one has passed those checks.

Control automation growth
Ask players to shut down abandoned factories, remove overflowing item drops, and avoid keeping unnecessary chunks loaded. These are operational safeguards rather than substitutes for adequate hardware, but they reduce avoidable load as the settlement grows.

Keep the previous pack files and a dated backup when upgrading. If the new instance fails, stop it, restore the prior directory and world, and investigate the change on a copy. Never experiment on the only copy of a shared progression world.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The server stops during startup
Check the first error in the console, not the final shutdown line. A mismatched Minecraft or Forge version, an incomplete mod file, or a missing dependency usually points to an incorrect release assembly. Rebuild from a clean directory using the verified pack files instead of layering fixes onto a damaged install.
Players receive a mod-list or registry mismatch
Compare the player’s launcher profile with the server specification. Confirm the exact pack release, Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.3.10, and unchanged required mods. Remove duplicate or manually added jars from the client profile, then launch again.
The world loads but quests or machines are wrong
Stop immediately and restore the last known-good backup if blocks, recipes, quest progress, or dimensions are missing. This often indicates that files from another release were combined with the existing world. Reinstall the matching server content in a clean directory before testing the backup.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Players can connect but the server lags
Check concurrent players, view distance, loaded chunks, entity counts, and the number of active automation systems. Compare resource graphs during a quiet period and a busy period. Add CPU or memory headroom, lower distances, unload unnecessary areas, and remove runaway farms in that order rather than blindly assigning more RAM.
A one-click installation is unavailable
Use the manual workflow only after checking whether the pack publisher provides a server-specific archive. If the host offers a different release or loader than your clients, choose another installation path or wait for a compatible listing; forcing a near match creates harder problems later.
