Create Aeronautica Modpack: How to Set Up a Minecraft Server (NeoForge 1.21.1)

A practical Create Aeronautica server guide covering NeoForge 1.21.1, Java 21, required dependencies, hosted versus self-hosted installation, client matching, RAM and CPU planning, networking, updates, and troubleshooting.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To run a Create Aeronautica server, use the Create Aeronautica modpack with NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1, Java 21, and matching copies of Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics on both the server and every player’s client. A managed host is the quickest route; self-hosting gives you more control but requires Java, file management, and router configuration.

What Create Aeronautica actually includes

Community listings use two closely related names. Create Aeronautica is the modpack or server-pack name, while Create Aeronautics is the aircraft-focused mod inside it. When searching a launcher or hosting panel, try the pack name shown by that service; some listings spell the search term as “Create Aeronautic” without the final “a.”

The currently documented target is Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. Java 21 is the runtime used by the installation guides for this combination. The project’s release numbers have not been consistent across listings: one listing showed 1.3.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1, while a Modrinth result showed 1.2.1 for the same game version. Treat the official project page and its current file manifest as authoritative immediately before installing.

Compatibility checklist

Component Requirement or action
Minecraft 1.21.1, unless the current official pack release states a different version
Mod loader NeoForge for the selected Minecraft release
Java Java 21; verify with java -version
Core content Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics must be present together
Players Every client must use the same loader, Minecraft version, pack release, and required mod files

If any one of these differs, the server may refuse the connection or fail during startup. Do not assume that a similarly named file is interchangeable: use the exact versions declared by the pack’s current manifest.

Choose managed hosting or self-hosting

There are two practical deployment models. A managed host usually provides a modpack browser and installs the loader and files for you. A self-hosted server runs on your own computer or rented virtual machine, so you control the files and operating system.

Decision point Managed host Self-hosted server
Initial setup Search for the pack and click Install; the panel normally configures NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1. Download the server pack, install NeoForge and Java correctly, and start the supplied server files.
Monthly cost Provider pricing varies; no single price is established for this pack. No hosting bill if you use existing hardware, but electricity, bandwidth, or a virtual-machine charge may apply.
File and world control Control depends on the panel and its file manager. Full control over mods, configuration, worlds, backups, and Java arguments.
Networking exposure The provider exposes the server endpoint; you do not need to open your home router. Friends connecting over the internet generally require router port forwarding, which can expose your home network if misconfigured.
Updates and crashes The host may offer one-click updates, restarts, and logs, but its tooling controls the process. You diagnose logs, apply updates, restart the process, and recover backups yourself.

Set up a hosted server

This is the least technical option when a provider lists the pack in its modpack browser. Labels differ between control panels, but the sequence is usually the same.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the host’s modpack or application installer and search for Create Aeronautic and Create Aeronautica. Confirm that the result identifies Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge rather than a similarly named Fabric or older release.
  2. Select the exact current pack version shown on the official project page. If the panel offers several versions, do not automatically choose the newest number until you have checked that its Minecraft and NeoForge versions match your client.
  3. Click Install or the equivalent action. The panel should download the pack, configure NeoForge, and create the server instance. Let the installation finish before changing files.
  4. Start the server once and inspect the console or log for a completed startup. The first launch can take longer while libraries and registries are created.
  5. Install the identical pack release in your game launcher, start Minecraft with NeoForge 1.21.1, and connect using the address supplied by the host.
  6. If you are moving an existing world, stop the server before uploading it. Keep an untouched backup until you have confirmed that the world opens and all machines and contraptions load correctly.

Do not add unrelated optimization or shader files during the first boot. A clean pack installation gives you a known baseline if a later change causes an error.

Set up a self-hosted server

Self-hosting is appropriate when you need direct access to the filesystem or want to run the server on hardware you already maintain. The exact installer filenames can change between pack releases, so follow the files shipped with the selected server pack rather than copying an old tutorial.

1. Prepare Java and a server directory

  1. Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime supported by your operating system.
  2. Open a terminal or command prompt and run java -version. Confirm that the reported major version is 21 before running the installer.
  3. Create a dedicated directory for the server. Use a short folder name without spaces, such as CreateAeronauticaServer; one community walkthrough specifically uses a no-spaces path to avoid script and quoting problems.

2. Download the correct server pack

From the modpack’s official project page, download the server-pack archive for the same release you intend to use on clients. A client profile or a single mod file is not a complete server pack. Keep the archive and record its version so you can reproduce the installation later.

3. Run the supplied installer

  1. Extract the server pack into the dedicated directory.
  2. Read the included instructions and run the supplied installer or start script. One community walkthrough uses start.bat on Windows; other releases may provide a different script.
  3. Allow the script to download or assemble the NeoForge server files it specifies. Do not substitute a different loader version because its number looks newer.
  4. Start the server and wait for a clean completion message. If it stops immediately, keep the complete log; the first error in the stack trace is more useful than the final shutdown line.

Use a legitimate Minecraft account and launcher for every player. Do not use cracked or unlicensed launchers; they are not a supported way to join a modded server and create avoidable security and compatibility risks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Add the required content

The server must contain Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics in addition to the loader. A proper server pack normally includes these files. If you are assembling a server from an existing NeoForge installation, stop it first, then copy the exact mod files into its mods folder. Start again only after the copy has completed.

When a mod changes terrain or other world-generation rules, a new world may be necessary. Keep the original world backed up and test the pack in a separate world before converting a long-running map.

Install the pack on every client

Server installation alone is not enough. NeoForge checks the mod list during login, and a player whose required files do not match can be refused before entering the world.

  1. Install a launcher profile for Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge, using the loader version specified by the current pack release.
  2. Install the exact Create Aeronautica client pack release used by the server. A pack update that changes even one dependency should be treated as a different installation.
  3. Confirm that Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics appear in the client’s mods directory or pack manifest.
  4. Launch the game once in single-player or on the title screen to let NeoForge complete its first-time setup.
  5. Connect only after the server has finished starting. If the server reports a missing, extra, or incompatible mod, close the game and compare the complete file names and versions rather than deleting random files.

Give every player the same installation instructions and pack version. Sharing the server-pack archive can be convenient, but verify that it contains client-compatible files and does not omit launcher metadata required by the client.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Resolve version ambiguity before you update

Version information for this pack is changing quickly. Community results have shown both Create Aeronautics 1.2.1 and 1.3.0 builds tagged for Minecraft 1.21.1. That does not prove that both remain available or that they can be mixed. Check the current official Modrinth or CurseForge project listing, note the Minecraft and NeoForge tags, and use one release consistently on the server and clients.

A third-party addon listing gives an example of dependency ranges for an Aeronautics 1.3 setup: Create 6.0.10 through 6.1, Create Aeronautics 1.3.2 through 1.4, and Sable 2.0.5 through 2.1. Those ranges are community pins, not an official compatibility contract. Use them only as a diagnostic clue if the official manifest is unavailable; never override the official dependency declaration to force an addon to load.

Safe update procedure

  1. Record the current Minecraft, NeoForge, pack, Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics versions.
  2. Stop the server cleanly and make a complete backup of the world, configuration, and mods directory.
  3. Read the new release’s dependency list and changelog on its official project page.
  4. Install the new pack in a separate test directory or on a copied world. Do not test an unverified update on the only copy of a live map.
  5. Start the test server, load representative areas, and check that aircraft, Create machines, inventories, and player data behave normally.
  6. Update every client to the same release before switching the public server. Keep the previous files so you can roll back if the new release fails.

RAM, CPU, and world-performance planning

Community guidance is not uniform. Reported recommendations range from 6 GB to 8 GB for roughly five to ten players, while another guide suggests at least 8 GB and more than 10 GB for a large pack. These are practical estimates, not a published benchmark. Start with at least 6 GB available to the server, use 6–8 GB for a small group only if monitoring shows headroom, and plan for more when the player count, loaded chunks, or contraptions grow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

CPU performance matters as much as memory. Flying contraptions run rigid-body physics every tick, so the processor can become the bottleneck when several players take off or large machines remain active. More RAM will not fix a CPU-bound tick loop. Prefer a host or computer with strong single-thread performance and leave operating-system resources available instead of assigning every gigabyte to Java.

Reduce lag methodically

  1. Open server.properties and set view-distance to 8 as a conservative starting point. Restart the server after saving the file.
  2. Ask players to avoid loading many new chunks simultaneously while you diagnose the issue.
  3. Run /spark profiler on the server and inspect which tasks or mods consume tick time. Profile during the lag, not while the server is idle.
  4. Check whether a particular flying contraption, farm, or constantly loaded area is responsible. Pause or move the suspected machine before changing several settings at once.

Remove Iris Shaders and extra performance mods during first-boot diagnosis. Add optional client enhancements only after the unmodified pack joins successfully; this separates a server problem from a client rendering problem.

Networking and security for home servers

Players outside your home network generally cannot connect until you forward the server’s game port from the router to the computer running NeoForge. Router menus vary by model, so use the router’s own documentation for the exact field names and protocol. A forwarding rule aimed at the wrong internal address will fail; a rule that exposes unrelated services can expose more of your home network than intended.

  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers

Because a forwarded port makes a service reachable from the internet, keep the server software and operating system updated, forward only the port the game requires, and remove the rule when the server is no longer in use. If you are not comfortable auditing router settings, a managed server avoids exposing your home connection and removes this networking task.

First-boot validation checklist

  • Java: java -version reports Java 21.
  • Loader: the server and clients both launch NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  • Pack: the same Create Aeronautica release is installed everywhere.
  • Dependencies: Create, Sable, and Create Aeronautics are present with the versions required by that release.
  • World: a backup exists before importing an existing map or changing generation-affecting mods.
  • Connectivity: local players can join before you troubleshoot external port forwarding.
  • Performance: memory use and tick time are observed with a small test group before inviting everyone.

Troubleshooting common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to do
The process exits with OutOfMemoryError The Java heap is too small for the pack, world, or player load. Search latest.log for OutOfMemoryError, then raise the server allocation to at least 6 GB. If the error persists, reduce simultaneous chunk loading and plan additional memory.
Mixin or ClassNotFoundException errors The modpack release, NeoForge loader, Minecraft version, or dependency set does not match. Compare the server and client manifests with the current official release. Remove manually added files, reinstall the matching loader, and add mods back only from the pack.
Server starts but a player is refused at login The client is missing a required mod or has a different file version. Compare Create, Sable, Create Aeronautics, and the pack version on both sides. Reinstall the complete client pack instead of copying one guessed jar.
The first launch crashes after optional graphics changes Iris Shaders or another performance add-on is interfering with startup. Remove Iris Shaders and extra performance mods, confirm a clean pack boot, then reintroduce optional additions one at a time.
Players experience low TPS or rubber-banding during flight Contraption physics or another tick-heavy task is saturating the CPU. Set view distance to 8, run /spark profiler while the lag occurs, and identify the machine or mod consuming tick time before changing more settings.
External players cannot connect The router rule is missing, points to the wrong computer, or is blocked by the network. Verify the server works locally first, then review the router’s port-forwarding rule and the host computer’s firewall. Remove unnecessary forwarding rules.

Operate the server safely after launch

Keep the server pack archive, version notes, configuration files, and backups together so you can reproduce the installation. Before adding a mod, changing world-generation settings, or upgrading the pack, stop the server and make a dated backup. Test major changes on a copied world, and require every client to update as part of the same maintenance window.

When asking for help, provide the Minecraft version, NeoForge version, pack release, Java output, complete error section from latest.log, and the exact change that preceded the failure. “It crashed” is not enough to distinguish memory exhaustion from a loader mismatch. Keeping those details also makes rollback decisions much faster.

The Bottom Line

For the least setup work, install the current Create Aeronautica release through a managed NeoForge host. For full control, run the supplied server pack with Java 21, keep Minecraft 1.21.1 and every dependency synchronized across server and clients, start with at least 6 GB of RAM, and profile CPU-heavy contraptions before adding more players or mods.
