Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A cracked iPhone is not covered by a published, universal Apple trade-in rule: Apple says value depends on the exact model and condition, and it inspects devices after receipt. Report the damage accurately when requesting an estimate, then decide whether to accept any revised quote. If Apple offers no trade-in value, its U.S. program says the device can still be recycled for free.
Can you trade in an iPhone with a cracked screen?
Apple’s U.S. trade-in page does not state a fixed rule or value for every cracked-screen iPhone. It says trade-in value depends on the device’s model and condition, so a crack alone does not establish whether a particular phone will receive credit. Apple also says the device is inspected after it arrives, and the estimate can change if its condition differs from the description you gave.

Start with Apple’s Apple Trade In estimate for your exact model. Answer the condition questions honestly, including any screen damage. A quote is an estimate, not a guarantee of the amount you will receive.
What happens if Apple changes the estimate?
Apple’s U.S. terms say its trade-in service is provided by a third-party vendor and that eligibility and value depend on inspection. If inspection finds a difference from your description, Apple says a revised quote will be presented for you to accept or reject. The terms also identify failure to turn off Find My iPhone and late receipt of the device as circumstances that can affect a quote.

Apple’s U.S. Trade In Terms and Conditions set out the terms, while the live order instructions should guide your shipment.
What to do if Apple offers no trade-in value
If the estimate or inspection results in no trade-in value, Apple says U.S. customers can still recycle the device for free, regardless of its model or condition. The listed routes are an Apple Store or the online program. This is a recycling option, not a promise of credit. Apple’s Trade In page describes both trade-in and recycling.

Back up and erase your data first
Before giving up the iPhone for trade-in or recycling, back up anything you want to keep and erase personal data from the device. Apple’s terms make backing up or deleting data the customer’s responsibility. Apple’s preparation guidance is on its Trade In page; its terms are available in the U.S. Trade In Terms and Conditions.
- Back up the iPhone so you can restore important information to another device.
- Follow Apple’s current preparation instructions for your route, including removing Find My iPhone where required.
- Erase personal data before handing over or shipping the device, and follow the transaction’s packaging and delivery instructions.
Check the rules for your country
Trade-in values, deadlines and procedures are not necessarily the same everywhere. Apple’s Canada page, for example, has its own valuation and timeline; those details should not be treated as U.S. rules. Check the Apple Trade In page and terms for the country where you are making the transaction. Apple’s Canada Trade In page illustrates the regional variation.
