A recent report attributes an “up to 4K/120 FPS” claim to Colt Eastwood, but Microsoft has not published Project Helix specifications confirming native 4K gameplay at 120 frames per second. The final hardware, supported games and performance conditions remain unknown.
What Microsoft has confirmed about Project Helix
In its March 11, 2026 GDC update, Xbox said Project Helix is in development with a custom AMD SoC, designed for Xbox console and PC games and co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR. Microsoft also described an “order of magnitude leap in ray tracing performance and capability.” These statements describe the platform’s direction and ambitions; the announcement does not provide benchmark conditions or a final retail specification. Xbox said it plans to ship alpha versions of the hardware to developers beginning in 2027. That is a developer hardware schedule, not a consumer release date.

Where the 4K/120 claim comes from
A Geeky Gadgets article published October 6, 2026, attributes an “up to 4K/120 FPS” claim, along with reported RDNA 5 and FSR Diamond details, to Colt Eastwood. This is a reported claim, not an official Microsoft specification or an independently tested result. Geeky Gadgets’ report.

The report does not establish what “true 4K” means in practice. The cited sources do not say whether the figure refers to native rendering or reconstructed output, identify a particular game or graphics mode, or show sustained performance across titles. No cited Helix benchmark defines a game, settings, rendering mode and test conditions.
What would need to be specified to verify it
- Resolution: Native 4K rendering and an upscaled or reconstructed 4K output are different claims.
- Workload: Performance can depend on the game, graphics settings and selected mode; none is specified for this claim.
- Frame rate: “Up to 120 FPS” is a target claim, not evidence of a sustained 120 frames per second during gameplay.
- Evidence: An official specification or credible testing would need to state the conditions behind the result.
What a 4K/120Hz display does—and does not—tell you
Microsoft’s September 2020 Xbox Series X Gen9 fact sheet lists 2160p (4K) at 120Hz as a supported output mode. That is historical Series X display context only; it does not establish Project Helix compatibility or performance. Xbox Series X Gen9 Hardware fact sheet.

Project Helix is an announced next-generation Xbox platform built around a custom AMD SoC, with Xbox and PC game support among Microsoft’s stated aims. The reported 4K/120 figure remains unverified. Whether final Helix hardware can deliver native 4K at 120 FPS, and in which games and settings, is still an open question.
