A more convincing soundstage may help a simulator driver notice tire and engine cues, but a reported lap-time gain is not proof that spatial audio makes drivers faster. In T3’s September 2026 feature about a session at Sim Motorsport at Brands Hatch, the writer describes clearer-feeling tire placement with Innit Audio processing, yet did not compare the simulator with the processing on and off. The reported claim of about a second saved on tight laps came from driver testimonials gathered by Innit Audio, not a controlled test.
What happened in the £40,000 simulator
T3 reported that its writer spent nearly an hour at Sim Motorsport, a simulation centre at Brands Hatch in southeast England, using a high-end simulator described in the feature as costing £40,000. The article does not name a specific simulator model or break down that price, so it is best understood as the feature’s stated price for its setup rather than a verified price for a particular rig.

The story focused on Innit Audio, a Swedish startup whose spatial-audio processing works with two-channel audio to make sound placement feel more like real-world hearing. The described rig used a neck-mounted gaming speaker; T3 did not identify its brand or model. The writer felt the sound was more immersive and found it easier to judge rear-tire positioning without consciously thinking through every cue. That is a report of one person’s impression, not a measured result.

Innit founder Bernt Böhmer described the motivation behind the work in the T3 interview: “It’s kind of funny because having a background in music and music labs, and all of that, and creating that sort of equipment, I always approached this from a music point of view. So I wanted to recreate reality when music was playing back”.

Why sound cues might matter in a simulator
Drivers make decisions from more than what they see. Engine tone, tire noise and changes in those sounds can help communicate what a car is doing. If a simulator presents those cues with more convincing spatial placement, a driver may find it easier to associate a sound with a particular part of the car or track. That could make the experience feel more natural, and might help a driver attend to cues relevant to a racing line or tire slip.
That possibility should not be confused with proof of faster driving. A realistic soundstage is one part of a simulation, alongside visuals, controls, motion cues and the driver’s skill. Research has examined auditory and motion cues in simulators for decades, but that broad history does not establish that modern spatial-audio processing improves lap times.

Does Innit Audio shave a second off lap times?
T3 reports that some professional drivers told Innit Audio the upgrade helped them get into the zone faster and could save about one second on tight laps. The figure is a company-collected testimonial, not a result from a controlled comparison. The T3 writer explicitly did not run the simulator with Innit processing switched on and off, so the session cannot show whether the technology changed lap time.

It is a useful caution about how difficult it is to isolate audio’s contribution; it is not a direct test of Innit’s spatial processing. A separate peer-reviewed simulator study found that racing drivers were faster than non-racing drivers and differed in steering activity and racing-line choice, but it did not test audio. Driver experience itself can affect simulator performance.

- PAIRED FOR PRECISION: Take full control of the race with G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel & Pedals and Driving Force Shifter
- PRECISE CONTROL: Helical transmission gears reduce noise and vibration with anti-backlash keeping wheel and pedals tight. The six-speed “H” shifter helps you execute smooth, accurate gear transitions
- FORCE FEEDBACK: The dual motor force-feedback realistically simulates the feel of tires on a turn, understeer, oversteer, drifting and more
- PREMIUM BUILD: Look, feel and durability of a real race car wheel, pedals and shifter. Wheel cover, knob and boot are covered in high-quality, hand-stitched leather with a solid steel gear shaft and polished metal pedals
To substantiate a general lap-time benefit, a test would need to compare the same drivers and simulator conditions with processing on and off, repeat laps to account for learning and variation, and report the results transparently. The evidence described here does not establish a reliable causal gain, nor that all drivers would benefit.
What to consider when comparing simulator audio
For a driver or simulator operator weighing audio options, the useful questions are practical as well as technical:

- Fully Adjustable: Steering wheel rack has 20 degree up and down adjustment, The height can be adjusted with a distance of 20CM by rotating the button, which brings the best driving experience to players of different sizes. Find your optimal driving posture for comfort and performance.
- Durable Metal Wheel Stand: This wheel racing stand is constructed with high-strength carbon steel, providing maximum stability and sturdiness for long time use. Even if you are playing a more intense game, there will be no obvious shaking.
- Folded for storage: After enjoying the game, you can easily fold this racing wheel stand and store it under your couch/bed or in the corner, making it a perfect choice for players with limited storage space. The compact design allows you to carry it anywhere to keep your gaming enthusiasm with you.
- Multiple considerations:Our box contains 5 fixed wheels and 2 sliding wheels. 5 fixed wheels can be placed under the gaming chair to fix the position, and the sliding wheels can be placed on the racing simulator for your convenience.
- Spatial placement: Can you tell where tire, engine or other important sounds appear to come from?
- Intelligibility: Are tire and engine cues clear enough to distinguish, rather than merely louder or more immersive?
- Compatibility: Does the processing work with the simulator software and audio equipment you already use?
- Comfort: Is the speaker or headset comfortable through a long session?
- Comparability: Can you switch the processing on and off under the same conditions to judge whether it helps your own driving?
How is Innit Audio accessed?
At the time of T3’s September 2026 feature, the practical route described was PC software offered by subscription. The feature discussed broader integration into earbuds, headphones, phones or other devices as a possibility and challenge, not as an announced release. Availability may change, so check Innit Audio’s current product information before making plans around a specific device or subscription.
