Could EverWind’s Point Tupper Green-Fuels Site Host a Data Center?

EverWind says it is exploring a data center at its Point Tupper industrial site. No application, size, power plan, or construction timeline has been disclosed.

Possibly—but EverWind Fuels has only said it is exploring the idea. As of an October 5, 2026 report, the company had filed no data-center application and had disclosed no facility size, number of centers, or schedule. The proposed data center is not yet a defined or approved project.

What EverWind has said about a data center

EverWind spokesperson Claire Parsons told Data Center Dynamics on October 5, 2026 that the company “is exploring opportunities to host a data center at our existing industrial site at Point Tupper.” The report said municipal officials in Richmond County had been made aware of the possibility, but EverWind had not submitted an application.

There is no disclosed data-center design to assess. The report did not identify a prospective operator or customers, how many buildings might be involved, their computing capacity, or when construction could begin.

How the proposal relates to the existing fuels project

Point Tupper is an existing fuels terminal in Richmond County, Nova Scotia. EverWind is developing it into a green hydrogen and ammonia production and export facility in partnership with a Mi’kmaq consortium led by Membertou. The fuels development is separate from the data-center possibility: its environmental assessment was approved in 2023, but that approval does not amount to an application or approval for a data center.

EverWind’s Point Tupper project page describes planned ammonia production of approximately 200,000 tonnes per year in Phase 1, with a planned Phase 2 increment of approximately 800,000 tonnes of annual capacity. Those are fuels-project figures, not estimates of data-center capacity or output.

What is known about the power plans—and what is not

EverWind’s energy plans involve different arrangements in the two phases. Data Center Dynamics reported that Phase 1 includes 650 MW of wind projects, with grid connections and expected operation around 2028. That date is a reported expectation, not a guaranteed commissioning date. EverWind says it is finalizing power-purchase agreements with Nova Scotia Power; its project page does not say those agreements are complete.

For Phase 2, the company plans three wind farms in Guysborough County that would connect directly to Point Tupper through the Strait Crossing Transmission Line rather than through the provincial grid. EverWind says the line received provincial environmental approval in April 2025. Nova Scotia’s environmental-assessment register lists the Point Tupper Phase 1 approval as February 7, 2023, and the transmission line approval as April 25, 2025. Those entries concern the named fuels and transmission projects, not a data center.

These power plans do not establish that electricity for the fuels project would be available, reserved, or technically suitable for a data center. No source identifies a data-center power demand, dedicated renewable supply, surplus-energy arrangement, or connection plan.

What remains unanswered

EverWind has framed a data center as a potential addition to Point Tupper’s industrial and energy platform. Parsons said such a development could “strengthen[] the energy and infrastructure platform at Point Tupper, while attracting new industries that can create good jobs and contribute to Nova Scotia’s economic growth.” That is the company’s rationale, not evidence that jobs or other economic benefits have been committed or realized.

No data-center-specific figures or plans have been published for the proposal’s electricity use, water and cooling needs, construction cost, emissions, jobs, permitting, operator, or build date. Those questions cannot be answered from the production and wind figures for the separate fuels project.

What to look for if the idea advances

A filed application or technical plan would make it possible to evaluate the proposal rather than the possibility. Useful disclosures would include:

  • Facility capacity, number of buildings, and construction phases.
  • Power demand, source, grid connection, and whether any generation is specifically allocated to the data center.
  • Water requirements and cooling design.
  • Environmental and other permits, along with the review process.
  • A named operator, project schedule, and specific local economic commitments.
